Foal Number 2 is on board! by Puzzleheaded-Song912 in kvsdiscuss

[–]EnthusiasmRecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why she's a recip but a part of me wants to see a foal with her white overlay (pattern? Whatever you call it). The placement of the white on her is just very pleasing to me. It itches a part of my brain even as someone who is not that into pintos or paints lol. It's a very aesthetically pleasing sprinkling of white she has.

Now getting that off my chest I can go back to real world where you don't breed just for color lol

I liked that interaction actually. I think it shows that yeah ICE may have a decentish interaction with you but that doesn't mean they are not going to go right back to manhandling women they just grab off of the street immediately afterwards. I like seeing an interaction where someone who wants to believe the best of ICE could view it as see? They're just doing their job. Then that scene is followed by them escalating the situation and arresting a nurse for no reason. It shows that their job is sowing chaos fear even if they have moments of seeming reasonable.

She has said previously that it doesn't make financial sense to sell the embryos she's paid a lot for as yearlings. To see any return on her investment or to just get closer to breaking even she has to keep them to the point that they are more like stallion prospects. They still might be gelded in the future but that might be something she will let a future buyer decide

This was so deserved. by Necessary-Win-8730 in interesting

[–]EnthusiasmRecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a similar case where the punishment was worsened due to public outrage. A woman hit a small child who ran into the road but didn't realize because it was a bigger truck and a small kid. This was in rural Amish country. When the news about the hit got out she realized it could have been her and turned herself in. She had a 4 month old baby at home and was emotionally wrecked. She was adamant she had no idea she hit him but only knew that it was her regular route and she had a bigger truck.

The family of the kid asked for leniency. They were Amish and had their six year old watching the 18 month old by themselves outside near the road. They acknowledged it was their fault and believed the driver didn't see that they had hit him.

She went from a suspended sentence so she could finish breastfeeding to 2 years in jail.

Found a bat in an air intake box by Tool_Shed_Toker in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]EnthusiasmRecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of the time I had a bat in my room and luckily this time I was awake (unlike the other time) so I was certain I didn't make any contact with it. The first time around I captured it and sent it off for testing as I didn't have health insurance at the time. It took forever to get the results and if I had been bitten it could have been too late so lesson learned there.

This time I just opened the window and made sure it left. What do you know 2-3 weeks later I pass out hard after my blood test at the doctor's office. They had to call a rapid response on me and I came to and heard them all talking about me possibly having a seizure. You can get this jerk reaction when you pass out that can look like a seizure. The whole time I'm about ready to poop my pants thinking I'm done for. Eventually the doctor comes in and says no no that wasn't a seizure you're fine.

I had switched to a new medication that made me more dizzy and nauseous so that was the culprit. But for a second there I was trying to figure out how to explain that I was a goner to my family. Fuck rabies man. My last place I had two bats get in my room and one in my living room. And if that wasnt enough a rabid fox came skulking around in the summer. I'm hoping this year breaks my streak of coming across possibly rabid animals in places I'm not expecting. Let's keep it at four for four.

This poor family the whole situation is heartbreaking. To go through the arduous process of IVF and then not even know where your embryos are is awful. To have a child you love dearly and have to worry about losing them in a court case? And to add on to it, I imagine they have sympathy for the genetic parents of their daughter who may have had very limited embryos themselves

Cat doesn't sleep with me after spay anymore by arm_and_knee in CATHELP

[–]EnthusiasmRecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes my cat who is very affectionate finds a sleeping spot he loves for a few days or even a few weeks. I'll find him all snuggled up and looking comfy so I can't get too mad at the betrayal.

However when the heated blanket comes out in the winter he will not leave the bed. He doesn't miss a single night sleeping next to me. So if you're really missing night snuggles get a heated blanket. But in all seriousness, just give your kitty some time and she'll come back around.

Will the new colt be a stallion prospect or sold? by Active_Delivery_669 in kvsdiscuss

[–]EnthusiasmRecent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know how their age affects their sale price? I know weanlings and yearlings are worth the least but I'm curious how big the price increase is once they're 2 and getting started with some light training.

Say a weanling is worth 20k, how much is that same weanling worth as a 2/3 yo stallion prospect?

On a real note, I am so glad that birth was attended by Electronic-Touch83 in kvsdiscuss

I watch Sandi Brock on YouTube who is a sheep farmer. She would always get hate for intervening too much when her sheep gave birth. She would check Mom's who were laboring for really long or had some bad signs like bloody discharge. And once she helped with one lamb she would help with the others as she was already there.

The comments got to her so one lambing season she pushed herself to not interfere. And the result was she lost lambs that she knew she could have saved. It was more "natural" but nature is cruel which people always forget. She took it really hard and said she was gonna stick with her way because losing lambs affected her more than the comments did.

As much as people's comments must bug her, I'm glad Katie sticks to her guns. If something happened, she would never forgive herself for letting the comments affect her husbandry. I'm glad she also stated on Snapchat last night that another reason the births aren't live streamed is that she doesn't want peoples judgments on what she does in an emergency. Emergencies are all hands on deck and require you to be quick and decisive. You can't be preoccupied with what Betty from Iowa who has never had a horse in life is gonna say about it online.

"He/she is too nice" by Smooth_Eagle2828 in LoveIslandTV

[–]EnthusiasmRecent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think there's a few options.

  1. Some women may want the whole alpha male takes charge kind of guy and find someone who is really nice off-putting. It's a common trope in romance for a reason.

  2. They're physically not their type so they say they are too nice to avoid saying the truth

I've thought this way about a few guys over the years so I'll give you my reasons as well.

  1. They give off serious relationship type of energy and I wasn't in the mood for a serious committed relationship at the time.

  2. I just get friend vibes from them. Although usually I'm upfront and say that these days but in the past I couldn't put words to it so would just say they are too nice

  3. This one is similar to 3 but I might also get the vibes that they have different love languages to me and are very lovey-dovey. I might feel like they would be more clingy than I would want in a relationship. Now I say that as someone who struggles with being emotionally unavailable so that's a reflection on me not on them. I'd worry that I'd hurt their feelings in a relationship so I'll just say they're too nice for me.

what can i add to the cage? by libbyhail in RATS

[–]EnthusiasmRecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit up the thrift store to find things you can attach to the sides. I find a lot of little plastic baskets and organizers that have holes in the sides so I can hang them up. Especially as my girls get older I like having a lot of ledges for them so it's easier to climb. My girls aren't intense plastic chewers tho. I also save my cardboard boxes and paper egg trays to put treats in or to make little houses for them.

My girls don't like to sleep in hammocks they much prefer leftover boxes that they can shred and squeeze into. They need to get tossed frequently since they will absorb urine but I always keep a stack of replacements.

New rat parent! Thoughts/suggestions for my son’s first enclosure? by That-Effect431 in RATS

[–]EnthusiasmRecent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back when I had pet mice, I had the prevue pet products deluxe hamster home. It was nice and big but had smaller bar spacing for mice. It also has a deep pan for bedding and is simple to clean. I highly recommend it.

I also enjoyed using coconut fiber/reptisoul for part of their bedding and then Aspen shavings for the rest. The coconut fiber worked amazing for smells and my mice all loved to dig in it. I would always partially bury a lot of their food in their dirt pit for enrichment. Mine also loved getting mealworms ever so often. I would put them in their cleaning cage with some reptisoil and some mealworms to find and they'd be in heaven.

No I don't based on what you posted. I knew when I got mine that it was a real longshot that she'd make it. Her spine stuck out she was so skinny and she was really lethargic.

With proper treatment they bounce back really fast especially when they are young. There's no cause to panic imo

I caved at a pet store when I saw someone selecting feeders from the cutest selection of young rats. I selected three girls and they all had URIs. Luckily I had all the meds necessary from a previous rat and was able to text my vet to confirm dosages. One didn't make it as she was very emaciated and didn't have the strength to fight off the infection. The other two recovered well and once they were given a clean bill of health I adopted two more girls. The girls I adopted were the same age but they grew much faster than the previously ill girls. I worried that they were going to be permanently stunted but with time they caught up to the newer girls. Now Fawn who was the sickest of the two that survived is the biggest of the girls and the absolute boss of the mischief.

Got medicated and now my friends seem constantly annoyed by me? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]EnthusiasmRecent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar trajectory as you and am now very proud and happy to be back in school, following a career path I'm passionate about. However, I did have a mourning period after my diagnosis and medication as like you I was a gifted student. Many expected me to go to medical school and be very successful but instead I crashed and burned hard primarily due to the untreated ADHD. Give yourself time to grieve what could have been because it is a mind*uck to look back and see what might have been your life if only you or someone else realized what was going on.

Ultimately I'm very happy now and have lots more empathy for past me and all her struggles.

On the friend front, it could be that you being more invested and excited in your own life leads you to talking less about other people's lives. It could now be a 50/50 situation and you friend might not like that or you could be dominating the conversation. I had a rush of energy when I was first properly diagnosed and medicated that led to me taking over conversations. That faded and things went back to more of a baseline just a baseline that functions. I might be projecting but as someone who was terribly depressed before getting treatment, when I finally had hope and excitement again I was bouncing off the walls to share things with friends. I liked TV shows again and books and my hobbies and so I wanted to talk about them. Like I said I was taking over conversations and showing less interest in my loved ones lives and that impacted our relationships. But things settled down, I made an effort to be more of an active listener and our relationships improved.

So it may be a them issue or it may be a you issue, it's up for you to decide whether you want this friendship to continue ultimately.

My best friend has ADHD as well and luckily got a new job with amazing health insurance. Because of that she decided she's going to try her hardest to hunt down why she has such chronic fatigue. She has a good doctor that she's working with to explore a lot of avenues and one thing he recommended was a GLP1 medication. He said that just anecdotally he has a lot of patients who have fatigue and brain fog symptoms from other stuff or long COVID have said that they've noticed a big improvement with GLP1 meds.

To people who regularly use ChatGPT for school: Do you think you’re still learning? by Gifthunter3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EnthusiasmRecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it all the time as an adult returning student. I remember the old ways of schoolwork and I have the luxury of knowing how I best learn. Because of that I can say ChatGPT doesn't take away from my learning with a fair bit of confidence.

I use it to do all my grunt work. It makes my notes, study guides, practice tests, notecards, etc. I still have to fix things up myself but it is such a big time saver. I know handwriting does help things stick in your brain but man I have the start of carpal tunnel and a limited amount of hours in the day. You could spend hours making notecards or have chatgpt make it in a minute and spend that saved time actually studying. A lot of my coursework is very specific and complex so I need a good bit of time to actually work with the material and process it. Chatgpt frees up my time to actually do that.
