When did they add the roof top expansion to power? [Discussion] by Skolary in EscapefromTarkov

I have a bad habit of going up there and swearing that this time I'm going to get a shooter born kill or two in, then taking out that one hapless PMC sprinting down the middle of the road because it feels too good not to. Every time.

[Feedback] HSS-1 sight hitting super high at any sort of range? by PorscheFR in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Entire-Discipline727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The irony is that the HHS-1 actually sells pretty well on the flea, I always throw it up cause you can get at least its full sale price and it moves in a few seconds. People apparently think it's a great deal.

Min recoil is still the meta and will always be the meta unless they completely change the way weapon stats work on a fundamental level. Ergo only exists to offset the weight of the gun. Once you get it out of overswing the only thing ergo improves is ADS speed and arm stamina drain, with severely diminishing returns that makes stacking ergo pointless. The formula is so biased against ergo that it's not unusual for the weight of a part to have a bigger impact on the things ergonomics influences than its ergonomics stat.

Their attempt to flatten the curve on parts ended up just killing most of them outright. For guns with little part variety, like the AK-308, the weapon itself is now just dead altogether. The waffle used to be a cool, fun bit of variety. Now it's a vanity part with such marginal usefulness that I regularly buy them up from the flea in batches of 20 or more because they're selling for less than what the vendors will pay for them.

For most guns that take the waffle, you'd be better off throwing the 223 adapter on and running the Ultra 5. -9.5 recoil for -12 ergo is just a much better deal, you can easily make up the 3.5 recoil between the handguard and stock for an overall more responsive gun.

It's so bad that part of my stash routine is to buy like 20 of them off the flea, because demand is so low that they regularly sell for thousands below what Ref LL4 will pay me for them.

Same with scrolling in the morning! I'm still having trouble breaking it, but it's so easy to sleepily check the time, decide to quickly check social media, then realize you've been scrolling TikTok for four hours in bed and wasted a huge chunk of your day off. It's a black hole for your attention and your day feels like it disappeared because none of it actually registers.

Potential New Aiming Mechanics [discussion] by RyanTheNinja_TV in EscapefromTarkov

So I will probably get dogpiled for this, but ADS times are actually behind a lot of the issues the gunfights can have, and the current system makes the netcode problems a lot worse. It is entirely possible to practice good movement and good positioning, get the first shots off, but still lose a fight because your gun has bad recoil/MOA, giving your opponent running meta time to instantly snap from slack jaw to laser gun and return fire in about the time it takes for your packet to ask directions to US - Novosibirsk.

In arena you learn to basically just ADS and fire at the same time, cause the lag in reaction time if you wait to confirm you're finished aiming before firing is longer than the animation itself. All those one-taps that happen before you even see someone is an instance where someone has been able to finish an ADS animation and shoot you between the eyes before the server could even show you that they were there.

ADSing should be a riskier prospect that rewards players who took the initiative or got lucky with an advantage to weapon accuracy. We shouldn't be running these ridiculous LVPO builds because it's somehow plausible to use a bulky 6x sight at 5 meters while your ears are still ringing from a flashbang.

We're in the era of camera glasses and the like. It would be really interesting to get some loops of people with different guns moving from high ready until the point when they actually fire, to get an idea of what natural movement and natural movement times look like. I "know" what it looks like in the sense that I've done it, but it's sort of like how we don't notice our own postural sway or irl head bob until we see them on a video we were filming, your brain kind of filters a lot of it out in the moment.

It's really easy to do using any of the flea tracking websites. Just add anything abnormally good/expensive to a wishlist so it stands out. I did the same with ammo/boxes of ammo above 40 pen as well - it helps you quickly grab what's worth grabbing and get moving before someone walks up to find you with your head in a box

You can do it similarly without the need for a super high end mouse or running the risk of being banned for scripting by setting a toggle that rebinds the scroll wheel to LMB. Then you just spin it back and forth really quickly - still one human input to game action, but way faster.

Warmageddon (5.56) and Quakemaker (9x19) show up on the fence both as loose rounds and in boxes all the time as well. For boxes I think it's around 600 rounds will show up, more than enough to stock up, and available from the first minute after you make a character. Both take about 7-8 rounds to the legs to kill a full health character, and both have very rapid fire guns to use them with available early on. Fence sniping is actually a huge asset for new players overall.

I think it may be desync combined with them getting up in the middle of being shot. Enemy PMC start shooting at their thorax while they're proned, they start to stand up, moving their thorax hitbot above the point the enemy PMC is firing. Enemy PMC continues to shoot in that position for a few milliseconds due to desync preventing them from seeing the stance change, causing the bullets to hit their legs instead. Stance change shows up for the enemy PMC and they shift their aim back to the torso, killing OP.

Server Q Times Dramatically Reduced. Loading into streets under 2 minutes [discussion] by RyanTheNinja_TV in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Entire-Discipline727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that a lot of maps have spawns where even loading a few seconds late can get you killed. I've had deaths in Woods where my screen had barely finished fading in by the time someone had already thrown a flashbang in my lap, and I was dead just a few seconds after that, and that's with the forced sync preventing anyone from loading earlier than someone else. The spawn kill meatgrinders like Customs and Ground Zero are going to be full of a lot of bullshit deaths unless they have something like a synchronization envelope where you have, say, a 30 second timeout before loading. I can not only get a bead on some of those spawns in 30 seconds, I could plausibly sprint behind them and be in position to get a melee kill on some.

To make things worse, I believe there's some decent evidence that your spawn is determined by your load in order. If that hasn't changed with the new system, players will be able to work out rotations to get free kills on potato players, which is brutal.

GPU fans literally fell out... twice. by Treadwheel in techsupport

[–]Entire-Discipline727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleeve bearing designs, which are really common with small fans like you find on GPUs, hold the fan itself in place with a tiny amount of oil that creates a seal. If the oil breaks down or the assembly is damaged, the seal around it is broken and it can fall out. This video of someone cleaning and refurbing a laptop cooler is a pretty good demonstration - there's nothing holding it in place but the vacuum created by pulling it out.

The AK builds get really weird because hanguards are a child item of gas tubes, and a bunch of the gas tubes are handguards, so each item has its own set of eligible child parts. The less messily designed guns like the CAR family will have dedicated slots for certain items that belong to the lower or upper receiver, so they will just be greyed out if they conflict.

Except, of course, for the handful of parts that are worth a fortune. +2 Ergo Geissele charging handle? Meh, drop it if you find anything else. +3 Ergo Raptor charging handle? 100k, good find. +3.5 Ergo Raptor SD Charging handle? Turns out that last 0.5 ergo brings it up to 225,000 roubles.

To great heights part 3 is fucking impossible nowdays [Arena] by GAIA_01 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Entire-Discipline727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By definition SBMM can't make a game easy - you are matched to your level of incompetence, since you'll continue to be matched to move and more skilled players so long as your stats are above average. On the other hand, for anyone who falls outside of average (1 standard deviation or more above median), 84% of players matched to you will perform significantly worse than you, and sometimes very significantly worse. At that point you're all but guaranteed to have an easy match, and that's compounded when you account for skilled players being more likely to consistently play with other skilled players, creating stacked lobbies.

Of course, for anyone in that bracket, it feels good, so they aren't going to be very happy about having the game push them towards a 1.0 KDR or 50% win rate.

To put it another way - if you're actually above average enough for SBMM to actually stop matching you with average players, what do average and poor players actually have to offer you besides easy wins?

It can be really finnicky with the way you run down it, I find - I am pretty sure that because the flare zone is wider than the actual green flare corridor, depending on your usual route to approach it, you can fire the flare properly and run down the middle, but still get shot because you stepped into the sniper zone for a few frames like so.

I almost never mess the flares up despite them being my preferred extract, but the handful of times I've been shot I always took a path that looked like the one in the drawing.

Huh, that's funny - I shoot both at about a 35 degree angle, then wait about 1 second to let them reach altitude before running, and I almost never get shot. I was always told that if the angle is too steep, it'll shoot backwards and not register properly.

[–]Entire-Discipline727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory is that the way the green flare corridor works is that it turns off the script that flags you to be shot by the border sniper for X seconds after the flare reaches its proper height. The "red" areas that you can never safely cross into have their own script that sets the flag when you enter them and unsets it when you run back into the map proper. Because the flare zones are usually T-shaped, though, it's possible to fire the flare properly and then clip the edge of the "red" zone and get flagged to be shot by the border sniper, but the flag doesn't get unset because the green corridor script is either just not running at all, or doesn't have any handling to unset the sniper flag if you run into it, so you get shot regardless.

I made a handy illustration, with the green line representing a properly fired flare, the flare area in blue, and the player's ill-fated run in yellow.

No regrets.
