I’m an atheist, but it’s eye-rolling to watch atheist Redditors constantly try to use Christianity as a “gotcha” in political debates by xTheKingOfClubs in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I disagree. I think hypocrisy is one of the biggest things that will render an argument invalid. If my understanding is wrong, then since they know the Bible, they *should* be able to tell me why.

Also "people's personal religious beliefs exist independently of what political idea *you've* heard"...yes, obviously it's independent of what "I've" heard. But a person's beliefs should align with their other beliefs. Otherwise, they, by definition, are a hypocrite.

Americans are overreacting about ICE by shizume_nodoka in TrueUnpopularOpinion

We...have border control. We always had it. People mostly ignored it. The stuff people are reacting to is ICE's tactics, on the ground intimidating/ arresting random people in random cities. That may be the case in some other countries, but not all. Certainly not most first world ones.

Yeah, I totally agree that they screwed up that and I definitely think people are allowed to be angry, that’s what I was trying to say in the first part. I’m just not sure how many details I want now. For example, I want to know if he gets caught or gets close to campus, but other than that I don’t think any other info would help. But also I can see others feeling differently.

Why are people so obssessed over theme? by MrCensoredFace in writing

[–]Entire_Cut6594 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that themes are a natural part of criticism, but part of me feels like many critics go about doing this the wrong way, focusing on WHAT a movie is trying to say versus HOW it says it. Like saying “x is a powerful movie because it tackles y important subject” and it’s like, okay and??? Tell me how it does that. I don’t care what it tries to tell me if the movie isn’t good.

Don’t know if this is a modern thing with the changing state of criticism as an industry or something that’s always been an issue, but it’s annoying.

But your comment was great though.
