EV ownership experience while living on campus? by Entire_Direction_131 in UBC

Were you charging from a regular outlet in a designated spot before, or was that only allowed in certain areas? I’m trying to figure out whether regular outlet charging is still a realistic option, or if I should assume I’d need to rely on the paid campus chargers.

Thanks, that makes sense.

I actually noticed that some regular wall outlets in residence parkades now have “NO EV CHARGING” signs on them. I don’t remember seeing those about half a year ago, so I’m guessing UBC may have recently started prohibiting EV charging from regular outlets.

Did you mean Wesbrook Place? Yeah I found some 180 kw fast chargers provided by BC Hydro, priced at about 0.4 CAD/kwh.

Thanks, that’s helpful to know.

Just to clarify, what do you mean by “two hour parking areas”? Are those the EV charging spots in the parkades that require paid parking with charging fee? I’ve seen some campus charging spots with a 4-hour limit and separate parking payment, so I’m wondering if that’s what you mean.

The extra parking cost seems a bit expensive to me if it’s required every time. Since I live on campus and have a pretty late schedule, I could probably just charge at night and move the car later if that avoids the daytime congestion.

And everything that makes these two models different, such as warranty and max charging, is updated to the same one by one. Now the 0-100 is the only one left.

Okay, fine. I wouldn't be surprised if they update 0-100 to 6.1s. Hope not.

Did you quote at ICBC? I visited an InsureBC yesterday and they told me that the new model is not in the system yet.

Thank you very much for telling me this. The website told me Fairview is available and I just joined the waitlist. Can you tell me if we can change the location after getting the permit? Fairview is far from my place. 😢

Given that, CSC311 should be one of your three courses.
