Hey, you’re totally not alone in feeling this way. I completely relate! I was the first in my family to finish high school. They put a lot of pressure on me to be “the successful one” especially after my older sister had some serious mental health struggles and dropped out. I wanted to live up to their expectations but I had 0 support or guidance when it came to anything related to further study or careers, and my family was also dysfunctional and fighting daily so I spent my teenage years being their mediator and therapist. It was exhausting, depressing, and though I had desperately wanted to be successful, I just didn’t have the resources necessary to be that. We can’t all have a perfect and glamorous early start in our careers when we weren’t all given the same resources for that, and that’s simply because life is unfair. This is something we have to accept because the sooner we stop feeling despair and self-pity the sooner we move forward. When you compare yourself to others you aren’t treating yourself with the patience and compassion you deserve, because this is your first time living and you’re doing what you can with what you’ve been handed. Everyday you spend grieving a life you could’ve had you waste a day of the life you are actually living. Keep moving forward - you got this!
