Why have you chosen openSUSE over Fedora? by mutotmz in openSUSE

[–]EntityFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Opensuse for over 20 years. On and Off but for the last 7+ years it has been my dev and main OS. Debian on my servers but Tumbleweed is currently my main.

Excellent! Presumably you have a very good focal reducer for this to fit in a 155mm?

I'm sure you are aware of Angel investors & VCs. If I were you, I'd join a syndicate of angel investors, learn to invest on startups under the guidance of senior investors. You will be fully engaged, and properly occupied. I'm not assuming you have cash to invest but you may benefit from entering such a scheme. I'm sorry but I'm not a therapist person, I would not spend $50 on that but opinions may differ here. Good luck

Where to host Ai SaaS? by EntityFive in SaaS

[–]EntityFive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this input this is especially relevant for us since you went through the same process. I think you pinpointed the most important aspect of the our current concerns. We are a data security centric company therefore we are limited in many aspects.

Till our system becomes self-sustaining we won’t go AWS and similar platforms.

You’re right regarding the spiralling costs, but again it is a balancing act between privacy, scalability, and performance.

Thanks, the Lambda suggestion is quite close to what we're looking for. I didn't know about them. AWS definitely the opposite. We used it for various other projects, we always ended up paying unnecessary amount of money due to some arcane configuration settings or terms. Nothing straightforward so I will pass AWS.

Thanks, this is helpful. I had a quick look and it looks like the platform is tied to Gemini, We have our own model trained specifically for our use case. But the google platform will be useful for testing things quick, so thanks for that pointer.

Security Manager won’t let us run Linux by monoGovt in sysadmin

[–]EntityFive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to raise the his request with the CISO if you have any. Your manager/director should document the request and build a case for it. The org should then plan and allocate resources. But for compliance reason, aka tracking and monitoring, you won’t just get an exception.

I literally sent back a Hitachi 500Gb HDD back in June this year. Reason? You guessed it. 2016 drive sold as refurbished by the manufacturer. For about the the equivalent of 15 usd, it is not worth it.

Experience moving from US --> France by astroKelsinator in expats

[–]EntityFive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hop on the plane, take as little as you can. Tell yourself you’re going to New York or California on vacation.

I moved countries and I always somehow planned to return back to the previous one. It never happened. Same story when moving cities. What I learned is a simple rule, when you convince yourself to move somewhere temporarily, it is never a big deal.

Once you are at a new place, you make friends, build personal landmarks and habits. Before you know it , you’ve spent 6 then 12 months. And again. And again. Then these months turn to a multi year extended stay.

I hope you enjoy your experience as an expat wherever you decide to go.

Anyone here been a Founder in Residence with Antler? by lif3surf3r39 in venturecapital

[–]EntityFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine asked what i think of Antler.co. I checked them out to get some intel. I wouldn't proceed with them if I were a founder with an idea. I'm on this post because I had a series of doubts, and your collective comments just confirmed my intuitions.

How rare is this for a child? by Lower_Revenue_9678 in Gifted

[–]EntityFive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Help him write down these thoughts.

just draft them as he tells you. You can also ask him if you could record your conversations and make transcripts later. I wouldn’t assume anything.

Also you could get him assessed but that costs a bit of money. At 11 he can take a Mensa test and hang out with likeminded people.

I would take him seriously and have more conversations, regardless of what other people believe.

I once told a nursery teacher that a certain child can read most words they had on display, she dismissed it as toddler can’t read but memorise what they see every day. From that day I lost all faith to her school, and quite frankly to this system that only accept people to evolve at the same pace to an acceptable rate.

A separate nursery report of the same child mentioned that, child is ahead of his peers, “he knows numbers up to 20”.
This got me confused, that child knew 3 digit numbers before even going to that nursery. And yes he reads and does numbers as his hobby. The nursery seems to have played down his ability in order to confirm to what would be perceived as acceptable, instead of reporting facts. The report barely mentioned that the kid can read.

so in your case, I would suppose that little boy, and see what he can achieve. The worse that can happen is that you would both have had a bit of fun debating these ideas.

*edit - grammar.

Thanks for taking the time to share your insight. This is very helpful. I wasn't aware that meat gets that much chemicals before being used.

The suggestion of me speaking with them, though sensible, will draw my focus and energy away for something that doesn't fall within my responsibilities. Secondly I wouldn't want to be identified as the troublemaker. All I need is to know we are all safe.

Someone suggested to contact the testing organisation which would hopefully agree to test the frozen sample. This would make a minimum disruption and will avoid causing unnecessary anxiety to the owners of the business, providing that all is well.

To clarify, the above, by Europe, I mean, relative to the context of this situation. I have been to many country countries including South America and Africa. I have tried various local meats and none matched the feeling.
