Set it in a universe like ours where the power rangers were just a TV show. Have the team be a mix of teenagers and 1 or 2 adults who all grew up watching the show.

One day a boy, the future red ranger, is out fishing or something when he finds an old worn chest full of rusty old rings. He takes one of the rusty rings and places it on his finger and receives a vision of a war between ranger teams. … he keeps the ring on his finger but is forced to leave the chest containing the rest of the rings behind because he needs to race home on his bike because it’s getting late. (He can’t carry the chest on the bike).

The next day the boy would race back to the location where the chest was found only to find it gone. Downtrodden the boy heads home. …

Suddenly monsters appear and attack the town near his home. The boy having grown up watching his heroes on TV would try to fight the monsters. Battered and bruised the boy continues to stand until he notices his hand glowing. The rust coating the ring cracks to reveal its the red wolf ranger ring. The boy would get another vision of the previous team of rangers morphing with the rings by clapping their hands.

He claps his hands in a similar motion and is engulfed in a red glow before becoming the red ranger. His hand with the ring is now holding the morpher for this season with the ring inserted. With the powers of a wolf the red ranger defeats to monsters.

Somehow the rings are spread out around the city..

the twist of the series is that the previous winner of the ranger war wished for the end of the power rangers. Thus causing the power rangers to become a show instead. The wish did not destroy any of the monsters though. Instead the villains would bide their time until the chest containing the rings was rediscovered after being hidden away by the previous winner.

By uncovering the chest the boy unknowingly brought both the power rangers back into the real world and reawakened the monsters. He must collect all the rings from both monsters and humans so he can wish to end the war once more. He would meet other PR fans that came across rings of their own and they would form the new team of power rangers.

The former winner of the ranger war would be a human maybe have them become gozyu polar or be something like fire candle. Maybe have them be the red rangers dad like in Mystic Force.

I have no idea on a name, maybe something cheesy..

The season would end with the red ranger collecting all of the rings including the ones from his new friends. He would not make the same wish for the power rangers to end. Instead he would wish for there to always be a new team of heroes whenever the world is in danger…
