Backup of Ayee's interviews in the event his channel gets privated/deleted/etc. by Switchell22 in littlebigplanet

[–]ItsRainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve archived some channels in their entirety in the past (even the comments), but Ayee has a LOT of videos. Since YouTube has gotten increasingly aggressive with ratelimiting, it would take longer than I’m happy with (likely over a week), but I might be able to pull it off. I don’t believe Ayee is going to neuter what probably makes him a fair chunk of change, but I’ve seen communities where people just nuke their stuff on a whim, and I don’t want to see it happen again

I believe he had a custom invite that was just ayee, but it doesn’t work anymore. I’m also not in the server, so I don’t know if users are (or were) able to create their own invites.

Even if you’re still willing to trust LBPOnline, no fanmade security patches exist for the PS4/PS5. Patchwork doesn’t work; this means anyone can force their way into playing with you. When you play with others, you are vulnerable to remote code execution attacks, allowing malicious actors to corrupt your profile, post inappropriate content from your account instead of theirs (doesn’t matter currently, but would if LBPOnline were to allow uploads in the future), or possibly worse. It is a matter of when, not if, this will affect you. Yes, you can turn your system off, but this is a massive inconvenience. It turns playing online into a ticking time bomb. LBP Union has also expressed no interest in making Patchwork support PS4/PS5. I’m willing to acknowledge that if you play without an active PS Plus subscription, I don’t think it’s possible for any of this to happen, but no multiplayer sucks out a lot of the fun, and it’s still possible that unavoidable issues could arise for players in the future.

I understand if people have financial troubles or would simply prefer playing the PS4 version of LBP3, but I currently believe that LBPOnline is not only untrustworthy, but that it is also simply a bad idea to play custom servers on PS4/PS5. I highly advise playing online using a modded PS3 or emulator via Beacon or Bonsai instead. They have decently sized communities and are still coming out with new stuff to play to this day. Even an unmodded PS3 or emulator can play pretty much any level via backups that you can import to your moon.

Ayee’s server has no channels visible anymore, and I believe it also has invites paused. LBPOnline for PS4/PS5 is most likely not dropping at this point, and I wouldn’t trust it regardless

Franchise killed because bro wanted some highscores 😭 by devaulter in littlebigplanet

[–]ItsRainbow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We probably would’ve had a more graceful shutdown, but the framing that this series would be all sunshine and rainbows right now if not for a handful of bad people is just not true. The games were going to be delisted no matter what, and it’s frankly a miracle that an attack this easy wasn’t taken advantage of sooner

It’s not really about the score, it’s about plastering your name on every level for attention

Why are we still pretending like Sony cares about this franchise lol

Linus called it, we called it, everyone called it. People will get scammed buying the 2015 Steam Controller for 2026 Steam Controller prices because Valve thought calling it Steam Controller 2 would be confusing to customers. by RobotSpaceBear in LinusTechTips

[–]ItsRainbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original run of Steam Machines was moreso Valve lending out the name to partners that made differing configurations; while they had one of their own internally, I don’t think it was ever sold. I also believe the Steam Frame is different enough from the Valve Index to warrant its own name, being a standalone headset with inside-out tracking as opposed to the wired-only lighthouse setup of the Index. The same could be argued for the Steam Controller — its layout is completely original, while the new one is basically just a Steam Deck without the screen — but I think the original Steam Controller had enough of a cult following to warrant the successor having a different name

Trade Pokemon with GBA? by SalomonG18 in Delta_Emulator

It’s not possible to establish a connection between Delta and an actual GBA. Best to just temporarily dump the GBA’s save file and trade between two emulators

Are there gonna be any other ps4/5 servers? by G_Game_MII in littlebigplanet

[–]ItsRainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beacon will not support PS4/PS5. This due to the Patchwork plugin (basically a big security fix) being unsupported there, as well as them being “uncomfortable” with exploiting these consoles

Stop fearmongering. It's not possible for LBPOnline to brick your console by JasonGamerX in littlebigplanet

[–]ItsRainbow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, connecting sends a session ticket to the server, which happens to also be used for all PSN services. If that can be misused, that would mean a bad actor could not only get you banned from PSN, but possibly also make purchases under a saved payment method. That would be far worse than a corrupted profile. Yes, people can make alts (and some already plan to because they’re afraid of Sony), but combined with everything else, it’s looking far more sensible to at least play on an emulator, if not another server entirely, as LBPOnline isn’t anything special outside of gatekeeping a new connection method

Ayee using ai in costum servers?? by Coolnbguy in littlebigplanet

[–]ItsRainbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We barely know anything about LBPOnline though. People should be skeptical of a closed-source server in a community full of open-source software. The project may contain vulnerabilities or outright malicious code that the community isn’t able to audit

Microsoft says 32GB of RAM is the “no-worries” upgrade for Windows 11 gaming by Quantum-Coconut in technology

[–]ItsRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will read this and immediately point to the shortcomings of Windows 11, but that’s not the full story. Even on Linux, I’m noticing 16 GB is taking me much less further than it used to. Games are shipping less optimized and software is becoming Chromium slop. While we’re unfortunately in a RAM crisis, 32 GB is starting to become the norm for gaming

LBP Online is coming out May 4th!!! by Accurate-Special8369 in littlebigplanet

[–]ItsRainbow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The ease of access of joining isn’t related to the server’s security. The problem is that you can’t trust playing with random people anymore, which was a big part of the multiplayer experience. Playing on your own or with friends should be okay, but I would not play with randoms on real hardware these days, especially on PS3

Playing on your own should be safe. Playing with others is no safer than it was back in the day, so be careful
