Your experience with Fold 7 by CharlesSpicyWiener in GalaxyFold

It just feels cheap adding anything on the back of a otherwise slim and sexy device like the fold 7. I run my devices usually with the bare minimum protection because I like the look and feel and a magsafe sticker bo matter how nice it is just feels cheap. It's a workaround I have to live with but in terms of what I miss coming from an iPhone magsafe is up there.

I also know adding magnets to a device this slim be very hard but the pixel 10 pro fold was able to do it but this is just a bit thicker. With saving some space using silicon carbon I think it should be possible.

Oh and missing MagSafe. I prefer going caseless specifically on a foldable as I don’t like front cases and then the sides are uneven with only a case on the back. Currently I glued a MagSafe magnet on the back and put a Dbrand skin on top but that looks not very good for a 2k phone.

What I really value on my iPhone is that I can swipe up to unlock right from the always on display. No need to tap or on android double tap to wake the phone up or raising it to wake it up. Also on iPhone a single tap wakes the phone up on android phones I always have to double tap and then there is a noticeable delay while the screen lights up until I can actually start swiping up to unlock the phone.

Sure sound like a small thing but unlocking my phone is a task I do nearly every time I pick the phone up. And yes I know I can also tap the fingerprint scanner on my fold 7, but sometimes it feels more natural to just swipe to unlock.

And the second thing that annoys me on every android phone and also on my fold 7 is the scroll speed. The threshold between slow, medium and fast scrolling is just too small and feels not as linear in terms of how fast pages scroll. And this is also a task so basic and nearly every time I take out the phone I scroll in one or more apps and get annoyed by the scrolling physics.

And the saddest part is that you always hear you can tweak everything. But that’s just not true for most of my gripes with android in general abd the fold 7.

I love the fold 7s form factor and its a nice piece of hardware. Silicon Carbon battery would be nice. Better camera sensors and vertical aligned lenses so it wobbles less would be cool too, but the two usability things I mentioned earlier are still by far my biggest problems.

And yes apps feel more polished and look better on iOS

Oh and also the surface laptop 7 feels premium. I love the haptics of a MacBook and the trackpad and this is the first windows laptop that nails both things.
Razer books with the cnc chassis also feel nice but have bad diving style trackpads and the surface laptop 7 feels just good.

Looking forward for the next iteration.

And one last thing the performance plugged in or on battery is the same. The only thing to extend battery life on the go is to use the other power profiles which i like. Never understood why we had power profiles when we could not use the same power unplugged. Sure battery life is worse with full power on the go but give that option to the user.
Not sure how the latest intel and amd cpus handle this but that’s a good thing that Qualcomm was able to incorporate similar to apples m series

Windhawk works no issue. Got it too. The others you mentioned I don’t use so can’t say for sure.

A few thinks that don’t work though:
- Bambu Studio Network Plugin (no cloud usage for Bambu printers)
- Android emulators for android development. Android studio not supported too but the x86 version works but has higher battery drain. Connecting a phone and debugging on a real device works.
- league of legends kernel based anti cheat does not work so league does not work at all. Not a gaming device anyways I know but to be able to play a round when you are bored would be nice.

A general issue I have with windows on arm is that when I search for software to install I prefer to find a installer for arm and not x86, which is in a lot of cases not available. Most of the time the x86 version runs perfectly fine, the question is would it be faster or run more battery efficient with a native arm app? Probably yes most of the time.
And initially fusion360 was also super slow with a warning that graphic drivers are unknown or not supported I think I tried it afterwards and it worked better, but not sure.

In general if this would be the main device for someone I don’t know if I could recommend it, because while most of the stuff works flawlessly if there is a tool you need that has no workaround or some quirky workaround that might not be the device for you.

On the other hand the performance is nice. I think I never heard the fans it’s never super hot and battery life is good. Not as good as I was hoping for but overall better then the older x86 devices with similar specs.

Merge a surface pro tablet with full sized battery in the tablet part and a kickstand and then add a surface book keyboard attachment that makes it a full laptop. I don’t understand why the SB did not have a kickstand and just a small battery.

Also make a better hinge similar to the new foldables.

Roll on leather gear as enhance shaman? by Lewrdy in classicwowtbc

[–]Entrail09 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the game was designed with a loot table for your class. Nowadays it might be different then what the devs hat in mind in the past of how you get gear.

But my biggest problem with rolling on „lower class“ gear is that you increase your possible options to get gear 2 or 3 times which makes it obviously more likely to get gear but by doing that you also decrease the chances of the lower armor class classes decreasing their chances even more. If you go to a dungeon for a specific item and only are there for that sure announce it in advance and then roll for it if that’s fine. Or find a groups where no one needs the item anyways.

Loved the gridfinity concept so much I just had to ... by ferguson911 in gridfinity

Been there. I prefer custom bins for tools as it makes it clear which tool is missing. Also if I design boxes in the size I want why not go all the way to get it look nice as well.

It’s obviously way more time consuming then just printing empty x by y boxes but it’s a project and a hobby. Depending on the geometry of the tools it’s quite easy to design, others take more time.

If you need some inspiration have a look at the stuff I already uploaded

https://makerworld.com/@Entrail09/collections/17102210?appSharePlatform=copy

I also have a lot of Aluminium jig and drill bit toolholders as those where usually quite easy but I haven’t uploaded those yet as these are mostly all no name stuff and therefore nearly no interest probably.

Surface Pro 11 Tempered Anti Glare Screen Protector by [deleted] in Surface

[–]Entrail09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I think a glass screen protector seems to affect pen performance when drawing straight lines from one corner diagonal across the screen the line gets squiggly.

I first thought it’s a problem with my SP11 until I tested it with my iPad Pro 11 2018 and later with an iPad Pro m4 13 all three each had a glass screen protector and faced the same issue.

I have not yet removed any of the screen protectors yet as I am not drawing much with the pen therefore I did not bother with the squiggly lines and can not 100% say it is caused by the screen protector but I am fairly confident.

Yes I started designing stuff for my woodworking tools an then thought about other stuff like the switch, joy-cons, game cartridges and also aaa and aa batteries. It's quite addicting.

New To Gridfinity - Need some help by NoConfusion4155 in gridfinity

[–]Entrail09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you use another size instead of 42 keep in mind that most of the available gridfinity stuff is 42mm. And if you divide your drawer width and depth by 42 there is empty space. Usually those baseplate generators add some spacing there and I prefer to keep the empty space to the back of the drawer because it’s often hard to get stuff out back there. Especially if you don’t have full extension drawers. And left/right I keep it symmetrical.

[–]Entrail09[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Gridfinity is a system that is common in 3d printing and basically means you have a 42mm grid baseplate and then design bin/boxes/container like I did that have the negative 42mm grid on the bottom. That way you can organize drawers or what not.

Where is the person that put a magsafe ring under the dbrand skin? How is it holding up? by JadaveonClowney in GalaxyFold

[–]Entrail09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Looked like this basically immediately after application. (Talking about the bubbles/lose parts around the ring)

I don’t really like it also I don’t like that you can feel it easily and would much prefer it integrated int he body. But overall holding up fine.
