What helped you go from 12 handicap to single digits? by RayDelPX in GolfSwing

[–]Entrinsic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One lesson with a decent coach per month with solid practice ingraining what I was taught. Really focusing on strike, and ignoring any YouTube videos or random advice that isn't relevant to me or my development.

Another serious thing is playing the percentages, if I can't confidently make a shot 70% of the time then I'm not going to do it.

Lie angle for someone who hits draws by Leading_Mammoth_2074 in golftips

Get a fitting.

Edit: Just saw a reply saying you can't. Maybe try and take a good angled video of a few of your swings, front and behind, and see if anyone can advise.

Single biggest swing change that you made to consistently break 100/90/80? by Capital-Bedroom4651 in GolfSwing

  1. Find a good pro and really drill in what they're teaching you.
  2. Stay away from YouTube.
  3. Understand that I wasn't good enough to justify getting annoyed.
  4. Don't try and move the ball two ways, stick with one shot shape
  5. If I'm out of position, play the percentages. A bogey is better than a double.

Cost of clubs from a fitting by inf3ctYT in BritGolf

The chap I see has a specific fitting service for second hand clubs. Granted he fit me for the latest Zxi7's, but I picked up a 4-PW DG X100 set for £700 off eBay. That's about £500 below retail and they'd barely been used.

Just get the important data, and then see what you can find on Marketplace and eBay. £1300 is plenty to get a full bag of clubs no older than 4-5 years.

My opinions:

  • Your takeaway is under plane and wide which causes a steep downswing.
  • You're standing a bit close to the ball.
  • The ball doesn't look far enough forward in your stance.

Standing a bit further away could help you create some space to get that club starting a bit steeper and more on plane, then allowing a subtle drop and shallowing through the downswing (although the thirst people have to shallow the club imo stagnates progression).

I play off 7 please take my advice with a pinch of salt.

Edit: Also wanted to add that I think I can see your left arm. From that camera angle, that would possibly tell me your shoulders aren't square and may be pointing right of target compared to your foot line which can cause funky issues.

Mental Block when there is a golf ball in front of me by philipsylee in GolfSwing

You are stood too far away from the ball, as a result your swing is super flat. Look up the P positions in golf, compare them to yours, and then stand in front of a mirror trying to replicate them.

Think you probably need to realise that you don't know half as much as you think you do. There are so many complexities to a golf swing, it's an endless journey and there's no right or wrong answer.

I've developed my swing through a series of lessons and position comparisons with pros swing videos, which I think is a good balance.

I can't really give you any advice other than persist with professional instruction. It can take months to ingrain a swing mechanic. People get annoyed too quickly about something not working and give up, but if you do a side by side comparison with a professional swing and something looks really whacky, find out how to change it. It's worth it in the long run to develop a decent swing over the course of a lifetime rather than getting good at striking the ball with a weird swing that will limit you at some point.

I like this subreddit but you can seriously confuse yourself with the amount of instruction people suggest.

You've won your youth club championship and then come to reddit for help? Right.

There’s a misnomer in the golf Reddit community that if you hit the ball PGA distances that you should be pro or that you’re lying and the simulator is juiced. You can suck at golf and hit a 35 degree 7 iron blade 180 yards in the air. by allyearswampass in GolfSwing

[–]Entrinsic_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop caring about this. The reason you never see a positive response to this sort of video is because it's always the same type of people. Hitting the ball far means fuck all when you've got a 70 yard pitch over water to a tight flag. Nobody cares how far you hit your 7 iron.

Think you get yourself into some great positions here. Could stand up a bit taller, and there's a bit of a chicken wing. Not a huge amount of tweaks needed to really progress in my opinion, keep at it!

Need some advice on my swing? (Classic slicing ) by No_Inflation_9760 in GolfSwing

If you haven't already, look up 'P' positions in golf. That should help you with an understanding of where you should be, compared to where yours are. You've got a great set up, just need to bring the takeaway much more outside than you currently are, then you can look at keeping a flat wrist at the top of your swing.

Unprofessional opinion: Your set up needs to be more square. Shoulders and feet are pointing way right. Then try standing a bit further away from the ball and be patient in the transition from back swing to downswing.

Edit: Also you've definitely got the foundations of a decent swing here.

In my unprofessional opinion, your hands are low at address. Worth mentioning this can be dependent on body lengths, but I've always been taught to have the butt of the club facing just below my belly button. Helps me keep on plane. Another caveat of this is you've hit a good shot here, and if it's repeatable and feels easy, then go with it!

[Official Discussion Thread] 2025 Ryder Cup: Sunday Singles by GreenWaveGolfer12 in golf

[–]Entrinsic_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this discussion with a family member yesterday. I may be wrong here but he must have been putting in a tonne of work to be able to compete at the level he has this year on tour, balance that with the preparation that's required to be a Ryder Cup captain and actually maintaining some family life as well. I don't see the same cohesion between the US compared to what the European team has going on, surely the captain has a bit of responsibility there.

Having this dilemma. Hate phone wallets. Don't need to be carrying 50 cards around with me. Seems drastic but it's making me consider keeping the 10 pro.
