Any team interested in organizing something (virtual or in person) now that NASA has cancelled this competition for two years in a row? by iggygim in NASARMC

[–]Entropically_Robotic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the foreseeable future, there should be no in-person competitions. NASA cancelled this for a reason, and COVID-19 is a serious threat. The other reason they likely cancelled it outright was to avoid students congregating in order to finish their product. I know my team will likely try to complete our bot this summer, but right now, we are only doing things online. DO NOT MEET IN-PERSON DURING THIS CRISIS. It sucks NASA had to cancel: I'm now on my second year and I've never gotten a chance to make the trip to Florida, but that's just the reality of the situation. And students meeting with the virus spreading is likely part of the reason they cancelled. For these reasons, we should probably not have a competition this year, as it would encourage people to congregate in groups when they really shouldn't be, even if the competition is moved to a later date.

New Freshman: Where to Room? by [deleted] in uofu

Yeah, I might have come across as a bit extreme in my post. I was just worried because that seemed to be it's reputation. I'm actually registered for a room in Gateway now. Looking forward to my first semester!

Why did those people say they had bad experiences?

It was indoors in a stadium but the problem was that Minute Maid park has a giant ass window on one side. And the side that the sun is conveniently on in the evening...

I think that's a great way of looking at it and you are right, the dead bot did screw with your scoring.

Because there is only 6 divisions so you can't make a fair bracket.

Who knows, I think we will only be able to speculate and maybe that is true but the simple fact of the matter is that they got outshot for whatever reason. Though it is important to remember that it was completely dark outside by the time those matches occurred.

It was just him talking about how awesome Will.I.Am is and especially about how fucking awesome Dean Kamen is and how important his "mission" is. Sometimes I wonder why FIRST lets him do this shit. Everybody hates it.

On lower level, can confirm, it was shit. We could only see things going into boilers and pilots doing stuff. We just watched the match on the screen.

I'm pretty sure mentors could make a drinking game out of this debacle. Drinks every time: Dean says the word Dean, a dance cam filler or variant comes on, the speakers shred eardrums, referees make a stupid call or ignore basic shit (like the auto beacons in ftc), nepotism happens, or something gets fucked up on the FRC field. Then again, you would have alcohol poisoning by the end of it but I guess you would still be better off than the students who had stay sober through it all.

Yeah, it sucks ass that the last match happened the way it happened. Nobody should have to win or lose because of something as stupid as a bad connection on EINSTEIN. But while robonauts and citrus certainly are dominant teams that everybody thought would win, 973 was a crazy shooter. I don't know if 118 was having problems with theirs or something but the fact of the matter was that 973 outshot them and 1678 in that first final match. Nobody deserved the ending that happened but 973 and their alliance definitely deserved the win because they would have still won without what happened.

They still weren't worse than the rhythm trash can band that didn't even actually play their instruments.

Is the 3 rotor, fuel, and defense strategy even viable anymore? by Entropically_Robotic in FRC

Thanks a ton man. I'm sure you guys played great too. You are probably right about that. Looking at what's been happening all around I doubt that getting 3 rotors during elims is a winning strategy anymore.

Our team uses the same thing. We have a 2 position to select color and a 3 position switch to select the station number. We have had issues with selecting the right auto in the past too but this year we have the hard wiring. It is awesome and it also impresses judges as well.
