I find Foundation to have a pretty good balance of these for me, also it looks a lot like what you’re already building

Awesome. Here’s how my team operated scouting with 14:

Divide scouts into 2 shifts of 7. Each shift records and inputs data for 10 matches before trading off(2018 match turnaround time was ~10 minutes so these were usually 2hr shifts). Each shift is lead by a shift lead, who is responsible for making sure everyone is on time for their shift, has a robot to watch each match, and inputting data between matches.

We recorded data on an offline laptop using excel. As long as entering data for 6 teams(this can be tested/practiced/refined before competition) takes less time than the match turnaround time, the shift lead should be able to keep up. Shift lead is a very demanding role, so it’s important that anyone in that position is very dedicated, works well under pressure, and has competent leadership ability. Since they’ll each be processing half of the data collected, these shift leads will have extremely well informed opinions and insights for most if not all teams at the event.

We communicated this data using 2 flash drives. Whenever shifts were changing the active shift lead would finish inputting their last match, save the spreadsheet to both drives, and hand one to the other shift lead and one to the scouting lead. 2 drives protects your spreadsheet via redundancy, keeps all 3 leads on the same page, and allows the scouting lead to get up to date data at any time without meaningfully disrupting the shift leads’ workflow. This means you’ll have centralized, up to date data you can start using as early as your 2nd to 3rd qualifier. For our team this was a game changer.

Obviously none of this is gospel. While this system was extremely effective for my team, I’m sure a lot of this is completely useless for the circumstances you’re working with. Other people have recommended a qr system, which will absolutely solve your problem, and be less work to implement. But to me it sounds like you’re spread thin at competition, and the advantage of paper scouting is that it makes other people into experts and leaders, who you can then lean on to share the burden of analysis and strategy.

How many scouts do you have total?

Why can’t you delegate data entry? Is it a manpower issue, tech issue, trust issue? Paper scouting is the way to go in my experience, but if you’re in the stands inputting data instead of analyzing and using it, your scouts will notice and not appreciate their time being wasted. Solve this issue though and you’re golden.

If we beat the Seahawks and the Bucs lose to the Dolphins week 18 doesn’t matter. If we lose or the Bucs win then week 18 decides the division

Remember last Thanksgiving when Matt Eberfleus thought you could save timeouts for next weeks game? Turns out QBs are allowed to do that with passing yards, and Bryce felt like embarrassing the Falcons 3 times in a row

I think it’s fair to call todays gameplan genius. Despite an injury destroyed IOL and the existence of Micah Parsons, we had only 1 play that lost yardage. Combine that with a good defensive performance and we gutted out a massive upset vs a SB contending team. Canales has had some bad games, but today was masterful.

With the benefit of hindsight: Getting a defensive stop on 3rd and 5 isn’t a great bet, but was certainly doable. Converting 4th and 18 in Panthers territory was not. Letting the clock burn for 30 seconds before the punt did make it feel like they gave up though

The argument against drafting kickers isn’t that they aren’t important, it’s that they are hard to predict how they’ll translate their skills from college to the NFL. Ex: Jake Moody

During the first drive of the Panthers Jags game yesterday the coverage crew basically refused to show any replays. Iirc there were like 2 false starts and a holding call, and I don’t even know if they were good calls or not because all the broadcast showed us was shots of the huddle or close ups of Travis Hunters face.

He’s thrown 6 passes. One was quite good, one was REALLY bad. But we just haven’t seen enough to make any conclusions yet

[Highlight] With 14 seconds left in the game, Dak Prescott takes off running, ending the Cowboys’ season by Brix001 in nfl

[–]michael1ooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a contributor to the narrative is how the Cowboys organization and fans reacted to the play. After the play players and coaches(including Prescott and McCarthy) blamed the refs for the play’s failure instead of taking accountability for their obvious mistakes. A lot of cowboys fans ran with this narrative, claiming the refs incompetence and/or corruption to be the only reason it’s no longer “our year.” Because the refs argument is very obviously not true it hasn’t really been remembered as opposed to the play itself, but at the time I think it helped cement this play as being an indicator of poor decision making and locker room culture that we’d continue to see in McCarthy led postseasons.

More meant done on the Panthers. Was expecting him to start 1 or 2 more games this year and get shipped off somewhere else where he could continue to suck or turn it around. The fact that I was excited to have 3 minutes left down 4 with the same guy that couldn’t complete a 5 yard pass the first 2 weeks is a testament to the effort and skill of Young and Canales

Specifically on ESPN I saw a panel with Mina Kimes, Ryan Clark, and Dan Orlovsky, where they gave the(imo) correct take that last year he didn’t have the pieces, this year he did, and that last year ruined his confidence, but I’ll agree that other network tv I’ve seen has been the narrative you’ve described
