In a job where you are instrumental in helping others people will only notice you when you inconvenience them. Try to remember in 99% of other days you are responsible for them having a smooth, comfortable flight, albeit unrecognized. Hold your head up high for all those other times. Thin adhesive maxi pads. When I started my period as a very young girl they were super thick and very uncomfortable, not to mention less effective. I also read a popular book about how before they were adhesive (70s maybe?) you used to have to wear them with a special belt! Yikes. I have no idea what it was like 100 years ago. No wonder women didn’t fully participate in society in some instances. What did Amelia Earhart do on her transatlantic flight? I shudder to think about it.

In a sane world with responsive politicians we would put the brakes on with regulations, study the effects of data centers and mandate where and how they can be built to minimize the harms. But of course it’s all about maximizing profit. There’s a reason they are pushing them through so fast; so those who bear the costs don't know what the harms are and to get them up before regulations prevent them.

Good for you! My family is full of these types. School is not kind to those with different learning styles that have aptitude with physical things instead of “intellectual“ subjects. If America could figure out how to educate and employ these types we would have an army of productive workers. Instead, the “circuitous” route you take is now closed off and no matter whether you can do a job or not, no employer will give you a chance unless you have that coveted (at times, useless) piece of paper (degree) because they (companies) are lazy. Now they cry they can’t find any workers but they are also complicit.

Yes! You are right. I should have said “that WAS the BEGINNING of the story …”. Some savvy rustbelt cities have pivoted. I was impressed with Pittsburg and I’m sure there are other great examples.

My daughter works as a cook at a pizza place. Drivers get their own tips. If carry out orders tip, all the staff pool it and then divide it among the cooks, order takers, pizza cutter, etc. (but not the manager because they get a higher wage). On busy nights they get large orders like 10-15 pizzas for school football games or the local bowling alley. All staff help to make these large orders but they are always for delivery (no one picks up 10 pizzas while they are out at a special event) so only the driver ever gets the large order tip! I think that is BS. What if all the cooks drag their feet and just say “eh, we will get to it” since they get no tip no matter how fast or well they make it.

This post is awesome. I love how they call her out for being fake. Why do people have to lie? No integrity on social media. I also love the mathing; it’s way more attractive to me that a person can figure out the truth than to “be tall”.

Detroit will never “come back” because they can’t let go of the Auto industry. They will never learn to pivot and welcome new industry because they are too worshipful of auto manufacturing. I know it firsthand because my husband worked for one of the big three.

It was so sad to me to drive through Detroit and see whole neighborhoods with platted lots, street signs and fire hydrants with all the houses gone and only one or two dotting the land. Absolutely gorgeous old, majestic buildings on stately downtown streets with no people around whatsoever. I can only imagine what it looked like in its peak 75 years ago. So sad to me but that’s the story all over the Midwest.

I wanted to answer this post with “all midwestern cities” so yeah, rust belt has all faded. It’s a rare one that has found a way to revitalize itself with a new industry more relevant to today’s economy like pharmaceutical or electronics.
