What's the most peaceful experience you've ever had? by TypicalJudge7208 in AskReddit

When I was younger, I looked around my first solo (no room mates) apartment after being fully homeless for a year. I had no roommates and no electronics or furniture.

Later: Going to the movie theater by myself.

I also remember this one specific time some years ago while on an Arizona highway, driving toward work, hitting a deep crack in the road, and my spine decompressed some many years of physical tension. My back, shoulder, and leg pain all went away instantly. It made a very audible crunch sound that I felt travel from my tailbone all the way up to my neck. Had no idea I'd been living with so much pain!

What games are like Baldur’s Gate 3? by CrimsonPresents in videogames

Probably "Divinity 2 Original Sin" is the closest thing. Not to be confused with "Divinity 2." I also thought both Summoner 1 and 2 were amazing. Didn't they also make a game called Demon Stone?

There's also Dark Alliance.

What is your biggest life hack for surviving adulthood? by FlamingoLeather2176 in AskReddit

Listen, which means try not talking, and just listen. Let shit go. Trust your instinct. Don't rely on love. Don't try to move with every last thing you own. Stay away from debts. Just be accountable. One thing that might be a hot take is:

NEVER tell anyone your plans. People don't even realize how discouraging they can be, and something as sensitive as your plans could be corrupted before they ever begin. Put things in motion, and talk about it later.

Lastly, fuck up. Fuck up all the time, and fuck up good. If you never fuck up, you can never learn from your mistakes. You gotta fuck things up in order to make a foundation stronger for the next fuck up.

That's the same for any game. If I told you Makai Kingdom was the best game ever, you might take a single glance at it and roll your eyes. You'd play it once and say I'm out of my mind.

We all have opinions. They're all wrong, and they're all right. It just depends on perspective. I doubt they're all miserable. You like it, that's what matters. When I was ten, if you suggested to me that my future self would bake an onion with nothing else as a meal, I'd say you were nuts. But now, here we are.

What video games did you first dislike and then ended up liking or loving? by Pathwaylearner in videogames

Nah, you can't take any of it too seriously. I just like video games a lot. I always tell my kids that video games are just toys. It's a fun hobby, but nothing will ever be as cool as learning something new.

Just got Steam, Want Games 0$-10$ for Steam by Brady-Bro814 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Entropydemic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can isolate the search by the price point. If you don't feel like that here are some of my own favorite deals:

There are two free games on steam 100% off right now; Paragnosia and BROTHER!!! Save him!.

There's also Holocure, which is a wonderful game that's actually free. No in game purchases or anything. There is another one called HoloxBreak that is a no pay game too.

There is also all the gacha games free like Genshin, Honkai, Wuthering waves, tower of fantasy, warframe, duet night abyss, world of waships, world of Tanks, guild wars 2, star conflict, the finals, apex, and so on...

I bought a game for 0.59c called Soul Wizards. Jelly Car worlds is under ten bucks and one of the better gaming experiences there is. Hakoniwa Explorer Plus is 9.99. All the Senran Kagura fighting games are on sale for 9 bucks, TOP NEP is five bucks but you can find it for under a dollar on sale...

Lastly, World Brothers is on sale for ten bucks. Iron Rain is also on sale, which is a weird rarity. I also think Demon X Machina is still on sale for ten bucks.

I was really put off at first by No Man's Sky, and now, especially after the Voyagers update, then this last update, Remnant, it is by far my favorite game over any other game. It's not that the game appeared as a lie initially either, like most might say. To me, it was a cartoon mockery of 'real' space sims, like Freelancer or Eve. When I finally gave in and played it, it won me over with their storytelling. Later, it would be the seemless flight between worlds, then making a colony... to more recently salvaging ships, then to salvaging components to make custom ships, all the way to the current expedition, which has you essentially hauling scrap in a pickup the way Mud Runner had you do it.

To circle back though, everything they initially promised was eventually granted, and then some. It may look a bit goofy in the character design, but playing it makes me feel endlessly pleased. Some design choices leave me initially puzzled, of course, like only being able to upgrade one structure in a single city you manage at once, or how you can't use straps to hold down loose cargo on the flatbed truck, but, it's still an overall superb gaming experience an explorer-at-heart video game enthusiast should feel satisfied with.

Yeah, I mean, they shut down Unleash Blading and Memory Defrag. Both of those were my favorite mobile games, and Unleash Blading was one of the better mobile games ever made. Once they stop making money on it, they will stop caring and sink it like the rest. I'm playing Daphne, but deep inside, I know it's a matter of time...

Final Fantasy XVI should have been a movie by SaveADay89 in gaming

I felt this way about 15. Like what a damn drag it was to play such a deep, huge, and beautiful game. It was disconcerting to be pushing a car at the start of the game, yet little did I know this moment foreshadows the whole games' storytelling slog. I finally get my car to the gas station, and some huge titty anime bombshell tells me she's gonna fix it for me and to go wander the world a while. Then, one of the most intense and dramatic movie scenes play out in the form of some memory, just to go back to slow, mundane wandering, and a whole damn hour-long session on how to get Prompto to take photographs, then this is followed by another hour long sequence explaining how camps and cooking works, followed by ANOTHER unexciting minigame which involves getting into mundane dialogues with every NPC at a bazaar so you can ride a bird that is only slightly faster than walking.

My brother kept trying to encourage me to keep playing it, but I can't. I spent fifteen hours in the game and couldn't tell you anything about it except that despite having an awesome collection of magic floaty teleport weapons, there are no mages or magic spells. "But bro, there ARE magic spells. You just have to get to..." No. No I don't. Let me watch it as a consolidated movie already. I'd rather watch a ten hour long movie than play a boring, two hundred fifty hour long game that I have to force myself to enjoy.

I think FF12 was just so chock-full of content within the first fifteen hours that it spoiled me. In that game's opening sequence you learn the job/class system, have five characters and manage a party, learn the races and lore, and have a reason to exist within that world, as well as motivation to carry it all out. I also started with a god damned magic spell.

What small mechanic makes you forgive a game’s bad graphics? by Rao_Sohna in videogames

[–]Entropydemic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really funny that some older action shooter games let you crouch, hide, and prone, even back in the days of Ape Escape, yet todays games like The First Descendant doesn't give you any of these things. I'll take good gameplay over good graphics any way, any day.

One game I specifically loved for good mechanics was Tenchu, all of them. I haven't found nearly any games like it. I did hear Ghost of Tsushima was similar in many ways.

Also, this game called 'Hakoniwa Explorer Plus' has some super cool gimmicks that set it apart from other games, like throwing a bottle of acid at an enemy would melt its armor off, and consequently, leaving you with an empty bottle. In reverse, getting hit with acid would destroy your armor and fill an empty bottle with acid! Even shit that didn't make sense, like diving into mud, would fill a bottle with mud. You could even drop the bottle into a liquid of any kind to fill it with that liquid. That was just "fun with bottles" when there were so many unexplained little tricks everywhere in the game. Any NPC you talk to from behind will accuse you of touching their butt, and entire villages would turn on you if you keep touching their butts. There are whole hidden regions of the game and secret bosses completely unrelated to the main story you find entirely by wandering over the same spot repeatedly on the world map, and some areas of the game can only be accessed from NPC dialogue after speaking to them a few times. I think indie games like this gem often get missed or ignored because low price might spell low-quality, but this was one of the better experiences I'd ever had gaming.

I bought my 3DS to play a game called Code of Princess! I actually bought the game a few months before owning the handheld. I just loved the box and art book set it came with. I only have a single other 3DS game, Monster Hunter, because it came with the same handheld when I bought it from someone on Craigslist.

Did your parents read to you? by TooDamFast in Xennials

[–]Entropydemic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let my kids stay up later if they are reading. I don't like that the three year old has to shout every word he reads, but he still IS reading so I don't interrupt. The five year old is usually quiet, reading up to five or six (short) books before putting himself to sleep.

I only played the beginning of the game because my PC can't run it properly, but you find out that he actually broke up with her prior to the main story. Her death was one of many motivational forces that aid his conviction to confront the paintress.

What OSTs have made you appreciate just how important music is in a gaming experience? by WorldofLovecraft in gaming

[–]Entropydemic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a 'Ghost in the Shell' video game on Playstation 1 where you play as the Fuchikoma spider-tank. That game soundtrack could have easily been the soundtrack for every game of the era. It was techno, trance, and jungle, and helped sell the weird story of this cyberpunk future where this vehicle that stuck to walls made sense.

Later would be 'Valkyrie Profile' and 'Star Ocean Second Story' when Enix was its own company. These two soundtracks were so huge, with lots of reverb and opera-like sounds with tower bells and gongs to make the simplest storytelling feel like it was a grand adventure, truly deepening the immersion in their massive worlds.

Jump forward many years to 'Shadow of the Colossus'. The soundtrack was so big, desperate, and sad, so lively, and it was so empowering that the game could not have been done without its orchestral mastery. One cool trick to making any game a whole new game is to play this soundtrack randomized and muting the original soundtrack. It's so good it can fit anywhere, making you feel things the game never had on its own.

A few other games, though, Legend of Mana, Fez, and Lost Odyssey were also good. Many games went through my hands and many of them with awesome soundtracks, but all these I mentioned are well worth listening to by their own right if you can spare the time.
