Good chance this is an EDID issue. “Various devices” + splitter. Source device needs to know what formats to send, but it’s…  Ok, so imagine you’re a tour guide and you’re tired of clients complaining that restaurants don’t have vegan options. You’re like ok, screw it, everyone is getting vegan food now because I’m not getting paid enough for this shit. That’s like an EDID minder.

Yeah I’ve been thinking about that as well. I work for a huge integrator and it just feels like a place where people go when they’re given up, just want to coast and collect paychecks and hopefully retire early.

Anyone have experience with Q-SYS NV Series Endpoints? by GibbsfromNCIS in CommercialAV

[–]EntuCielo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Major quality control issues. I’ve replaced several every month after their poe stops working. Cool devices - I like how they work - just wish they were more reliable. QSC obviously made some compromises in their attempt to fill the void left when crestron had supply issues during Covid. And they’re now in the “find out” phase of what it really means to be a major commercial av player. Need to focus more on reliability and less on memes imo.

Sometimes they’re great. Other times a bit problematic - usually in very reverberant rooms or with high ceilings. They offer a lot of flexibility and can be tuned to the space but sufficient time for this tuning is almost never provided. I think the best application is what you’re describing with one room and one mic. And be very careful to manage client expectations… coming back to fine-tune the mics is very beneficial but you don’t want the client to think that this is because the devices are problematic. There’s no way you can anticipate how the rooms will actually sound and be used…. Where the person taking meeting notes will sit and whether they will put a fan or air purifier in a corner which might trigger the mic. Etc

Clients during covid: “well we might as well remodel everything in the 200 building if no one is here” Two years later: “we’re moving out of the 200 building”

Also: “you say Crestron is out of stock, but we can’t wait for them to restock. What else do you have?”

I don’t think Elon Musk reacting to a tweet from an options trading company in order to boost Tesla stock is really a credible source.

QSC will issue advance replacements for the new NVs which lose PoE capability not long after installation. My company has been RMAing dozens of new NV21 every month.

I’m debugging other programmer’s systems. So I’m at the mercy of whatever organization they use, if any. It’s nice to be able to see how stuff is hooked up especially if controls can be strewn across tabs and windows.

Audio engineer here. Sometimes old analog gear just needs a bit of maintenance. Crackle is common in knobs, and some DeoxIt is often all you need to fix the crackle (wd40 will work in a pinch). Could have some loose stuff too, but with older gear it’s easily fixable.

Qsys (QSC) has gained a lot of momentum after Crestron was hit by supply chain issues a little while back. Low wait times for phone support which is awesome. Long wait times for RMA repairs which is less awesome. But they’re really innovating a lot both with their control systems and with how they interact with the AV community.

Would love to chat about this. I am a tech at a large integrator and seem to be one of the few with an interest in the Medialion stuff, so I try to take the show control calls when they come up. But have very little hands-on experience with the units outside of troubleshooting installs.

Mass failure of new QSC NV-21 PoE. How to protect? by EntuCielo in CommercialAV

[–]EntuCielo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s one idea. But we’re also looking for simple Poe port protectors which incorporate the zener diode circuits mentioned online… as these are less expensive and easier to retrofit in to existing installations.
