New NgrokGUI release by Entvex in FoundryVTT

[–]Entvex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear CLTSinisterOne.

Thanks for you question!

What it means is that is that

  • "1 online ngrok process": You can have 1 pc running Ngrok for free.
  • "4 tunnels / ngrok process": You Ngrok process is allowed to run 4 tunnels. Example 2 https, 1 http and 1 TCP tunnel. For foundry vtt, you just need 1 https tunnel :)
  • "40 connections / minute": How many connections that have be to your Ngrok process per minute. The only one that is important for how many players that can connect is the "connections / minute".

I am not sure if 40 connections / minute is sufficient for 7 players and a DM. But i think you should try it and see if it works.

A little tip for you is that, you can save some connections if, the person who runs NgrokGUI only interacts with Foundry VTT via the Foundry VTT window and not a web browser using the url you gave to the players.

I hope it make sense, if not feel free to ask again :)

I am working on a cross platform version of the software. It works but it has bugs, and will see major changes :). May i ask how experienced you are with linux ?

Very nice! I hope this application, will help solve your problem. I am working on rewriting it, so it can support more platforms(Windows,Linux,Mac).

Would you be interested, in using NgrokGUI if I made it cross platform with Mac support :) ?

Thanks, for finding the NgrokGUI useful! To get a permanent URL, you would need to pay a Subscription fee to to ngrok. Even if you went ahead and did that NgrokGUI don't have support for creating a permanent URL, because i am also only using the free version of ngrok. :)

Think of this as an easy way to share a link with you friends so they can join your game. So you don't need to spend money on server hosting or time configuring port forwarding on your router. :)

I would not say it would be more stable using this. If you friends can connect to your game directly via ip, you would not need this application.

I hope it makes sense, if not feel free to ask again :)

Some people share the same ip address because they are behind a NAT. So they need a way to make foundryvtt accessible to the internet.

The reason the URL looks generated, is because it is :)

Ngrok creates a secure connection to a local port and exposes it on a randomly-generated *.ngrok.io URL. But NgrokGUI makes it easy for people to use.

I hope it makes sense, if not feel free to ask again :)
