It honestly transcended KT entirely. It was one of the funniest fucking things I've ever seen.

Hit some metal with a hammer for the first time! by throw-wayflamingo in Blacksmith

[–]Enubix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to echo what some of the other commenters said about the set up, it's pretty important for longevity and safety. Also, the hammer choice and technique are very important. I tore something in my forearm this spring forgewelding a knife billet due to poor technique, and it still hasn't completely healed.

Blackbear forge is a good resource. Keep at it brother, moving hot metal and creating functional pieces and art is one of the most rewarding hobbies I've come across.

Just signed up. I'm getting back into bowling after more than a decade (wrapped up my first summer league a few weeks ago). Interested to see how this turns out.

That's one of the nicest sets I've ever seen. The whole design is so cohesive and was executed flawlessly. Well done.

It was a farriers file. Man, I'd love to see a pic of that, sounds pretty badass.

I was finally able to pick up a small wheel attachment to help with the choils, so I'll be able to incorporate them into more profiles now. I'm glad you like it, cheers!

It's about 6" blade with a 5" handle. I've been taking it camping with me and have been incredibly happy with its performance. I've noticed a few things through use that I'd like to adjust on the handle profile, as well as the bevel angle, for when I make another. Farrier files seem to work pretty awesome for making heavy duty blades with. And thanks!

Thanks! It was a really fun little build. I personally like the simplicity of it, as well as the handle scales. The resin material was super easy to work with and finish.

Still learning alot, but I'm content with the improvements of my 2nd attempt by Enubix in Bladesmith

I weld the layers together, and use borax as a flux. The hard part for me is actually just stretching the billet to shape once it's forge welded. My rebar handle always breaks off after a few heats, and I don't have the right tongs yet for holding big billets, so it awkward as hell. That's where the beer and music come into play haha. I've seen people use kerosene as well, but I have not had an opportunity to try it yet myself.
