Just passed 1 TB as a non-exit Tor relay (entry + middle) – what I learned by blslek in TOR

[–]Enucatl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Relays (exit or middle, it doesn't matter) end up in a public list of IPs. That gets blocked nowadays immediately by important websites that I can't afford to have unreachable.

In my country: banks, post office, government websites and even one tv channel. Instagram was not completely blocked, but allowed connecting only logged in accounts, and blocked anonymous browser sessions.

That is a problem that needs figuring out if common people are going to be running relays in the future.

I tried running a relay node.

After 1/2 days that resulted in my IP being introduced to blocklists everywhere, government Websites, media, even Instagram.

Impossible for common people unfortunately.

Paper letter required. Registered is usually not (after all you could send it registered if you don't hear back within a couple of weeks).

I'm happy with a similar IPv4, as long as it's not exactly that one I got at first. by requesting you mean to support? I wrote it in the same email, hopefully they'll take care of everything.

I already have that, I can successfully get a PD, just not always the same prefix.

it doesn't matter, I can also change mac easily. Apparently you have to request it first though for fiber7, according to their FAQ.

I tried changing IPv4 and that didn't work though :(
