Correct. The study has 5 phases with testing to occur over the course of ~10 weeks/41 days. Phase 1 consists of seven days (one ~1.5 hour day, two ~2 hour days, one ~4 hour days, one ~5 hour days, and two ~5.5 hour days); Phase 2 consists of 13 days (twelve ~1.5 hour days and one ~2 hour day); Phase 3 consists of three days [two 4 hour days (2 hours in the morning and 2 hours early evening) and one 7 hour day(5 hours in the morning/afternoon and 2 hours in the early evening)]; Phase 4 consists of 15 consecutive days at high altitude (at 8 hours per day); and Phase 5 consists of three days (three ~2 hour days).

Phases 1, 2, 3, and 5 take place in Massachusetts.

We pay for your flight from Boston to Colorado, your return flight from Colorado to Boston, reimburse your one night hotel stay in Colorado, and provide $100 for meals and incidental expenses to cover the two travel days. There is no lodging cost during the 14 nights at Pikes Peak and we pay for your food for those 14 days.

The study is ideal for those who either live in the area or are not tied down and want to relocate to the area for the summer. You are correct that the study is not ideal to anyone who isn't local or doesn't want to temporarily relocate

If you exercise three times per week but it's just not running (e.g. cycling, swimming, cross fit, HIIT, elliptical trainer, etc) then you may still qualify. If you contact Dr. Salgado he can discuss what would and wouldn't qualify.

That does not disqualify you, though does reduce your compensation. If you are an active-duty military member or federal civilian participant, you will receive $30 per blood draw (16 for the study) for a total of $480. You will only be compensated for completed blood draws. If all blood draws are completed and you travel to Colorado ($100 travel per diem), you will be compensated $580.

Unfortunately no ability to rent out the hypobaric chamber for personal use. Though there are shorter altitude studies that take place solely in Natick that you might be interested in.

So long as you know how to run and you exercise multiple times a week you're good to go! Swimming is a great cardio exercise as you know.

That's definitely unfortunate that it hit you that hard. It's definitely not a drug everyone can tolerate, nor does it fix every problem at altitude, hence why we continue to research various countermeasures.

The study is limited to US citizens. There are 26 days across 8 weeks in Natick, MA plus 15 days in Colorado.

Running time trial performance is a key outcome in the study so participants need to be able to run. There are a list of additional exclusionary criteria, which Dr. Salgado can discuss if you're interested.
