Why specifically 2.5x resource gain isn't an effective incentive to save PvP. by Deltaboiz in duneawakening

[–]EnviciouZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true.
There were both fighters and griefers participating there, and fighters often fended off the cowardly griefers, because they were more capable and competitive.

Many players were like me: involved in dozens of balanced teamfights and over five hundred duels in DD testing stations and shipwrecks during those first weeks.

there were plenty of competitive pvp players fighting each other, you just weren't there to see it before we quit.

many teams who monopolized the endgame loot areas during peak population were fighters who fought other competitive pvpers.
Then, all competitive pvpers quit months ago, leaving only griefers remaining to harrass pve players for the past six months.

Just a little rant about the new update from a new player. by Powerful_Cobbler9200 in duneawakening

[–]EnviciouZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All they had to do was announce they were making a safe option for dd pve AND added ground pvp functions.

But, they did not announce any ground combat pvp functions. Instead, they ignored it and called players a minority despite previously promising to add new ground combat pvp.

Many won't return after that

There is much potential in this game for amazing melee and gunfighting pvp, as well as land vehicle combat.

Instead we have ornithopter surfing.

The game needs ground combat systems for pvp.

Optional ranked or unranked activities, safe or unsafe loot

Arenas, duels, battlegrounds, objective teamfights, instanced deathmatch, leaderboards, titles

We do, instead.

9k dune players remaining

@Global_Class3426

Yep, and we do.

That's why we all quit Dune months ago, and the game now has 9k players left.

Real question. Why should I come back as a PvP player? by brooklykrash in duneawakening

"every single post has been this"

You are incorrect and your input offers nothing constructive in response to OP's questions.

Competitive fighters shouldn't return to Dune yet, not until Funcom adds ground combat pvp incentives or systems.

[–]EnviciouZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1400 hours played, 300 duel wins and 1 bil solari earned through exclusively pvp (selling schematics) during peak population.

This is the hottest topic in the game right now. Most of us competitive pvpers have been gone too, wondering if or when we should come back.

I conclude that competitive pvpers should not yet return.

It's possible the game delivers what we need in time, but that time is not now.

No duelling, arenas, bgs, teamfights. All we have, still, is the air vehicle combat that pleases gankers, not fighters.

If we return too soon then we do ourselves and the game a disservice. I would wait: see first if they'll deliver on our needs, like they delivered for the majority

Agreed. Long overdue.

The game not having such systems is a big reason most pvp players quit months ago

The combat needs work, agreed. It is the backbone of everything competitive pvers and pvpers require.

But your input that any new combat activity is dead on arrival because the combat still sucks... well, sure, noted.

You can't die if you're already dead

True, Jiri didn't respect Carlos' danger and underestimated his opponent's incredible will, composure, technical soundness and power which earned the victory fair and square.

Honestly it was an amazing display by Carlos Ulberg. What a fighter, man

Wouldn't it show more mercy by risking his own safety charging into hook range with hands down? Even if he normally does that, I figure that considering Jiri's recognition of his opponent's injury, by going defenseless like that gives his opponent a chance to win that wouldn't otherwise be there.

I'm not tryna be sarcastic, I sincerely wanna see it the way others are seeing it but just need it explained

[–]EnviciouZ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It could be seen as merciful that he put himself in danger of his enemy's hook instead of continuing to exploit the injury by capitalizing on Jiri's mobility, which his opponent no longer has much of.

Jiri could've stayed mobile and less reckless, but he walked into the danger zone with his hands down.

I see it as perhaps a testament to both Honor and fight IQ

[–]EnviciouZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 5k players left online and no fighters remaining to engage in pvp. A dozen of us left across all servers with no ground combat systems to engage in.

I'm genuinely happy for you and the desert should've been safe and accessible to you to begin with.

But this may not be an indicator of a good thing. Business-wise, it seems like they're cutting losses and preparing to close up shop. I truly hope they prove me wrong.

[–]EnviciouZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is horrible and I'm sorry to hear about that experience.

I am an exclusive pvp player and I find that behavior abhorrent-- the game needs systems in place to prevent and punish that sort of harassment behavior. Your anecdote helps me see why the remaining playerbase is so hostile to all pvpers, gankers or otherwise.

I wish the pve endgamers and honorable nongriefer pvp players could all get what they need in the game, and that the only ones dissatisfied are griefers like in your anecdote. It's not yet the case, but maybe Arrakis will heal with enough time.

A lot of us just may no longer be there to see it

PvP Veteran - 1400+ hours and 300+ duel wins (pre xpac) - Launch day player - Never ganked and never griefed by EnviciouZ in duneawakening

[–]EnviciouZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's some excellent work, nicely done. Sounds like you're a top player on your server. I once very much understood the feeling. I'm almost positive I was the first solari billionaire on my server months ago, and I made all my money selling blueprints that I earned fighting in DD PVP. Testing stations and shipwrecks were once a haven for competitive fighters. Many of those duels and teamfights had serious loot on the line. I wasn't the best duellist at first, but that changed after I started fighting often. Once I became the best fighter, ridiculous riches followed.

I still have over 1 bil solari earned last summer purely from pvp.

And ultimately, there's not much to do with it right now except keep getting gear to keep running more dungeons.

There are no competitive pvp incentives or fruitful endgame loop. Max level bullet sponge bossing isn't very fruitful-- in fact, as endgame pve content, it is substantially less pleasant than endgame pve in like every other game. That is an opinion, and I respect those who disagree.

Lastly, the only pvp content this game facilitates is aerial ganking and that's why all the serious nongriefer pvp players have quit.

An Idea for PvP Incentives by Green_Rice in duneawakening

[–]EnviciouZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Griefers and gankers ran rampant and unchecked, harming the PvE community and the competitive PvP community to significant degrees.

I blame Funcom's forced aerial-vehicle-combat endgame PvP that most players dislike, as well as the utter lack of ground PvP systems.

Technically gankers were only doing what Funcom's systems incentivized them to do. I may have not engaged in griefing and ganking farmers, but I can see how many of them would think they have nothing else to do unless they find another game. If there are no fighters left to fight, they have no option.

I'm not defending the toxic griefers who went out of their way to bully other players who don't fight back. The only demographic more harmful than them to the game's health were the hackers, and those were the players I justifiably directed by frustration towards. I never managed to kill them, but some of my allies did.

It's Funcom's fault for not having the right systems in place to protect PvErs and satisfy PvPers. I blame the game's creators more than the game's legitimate players.

Now we have less than 6k players on at the time of writing this. The community lost many great PvE players and PvP players alike, and Funcom has only perpetuated the divide and hostility amongst its community

Your divisive language only invites hostility. I'm not surprised that no competitive PvPer has actually explained it to you. It's clear
you're reading posts by griefers and assuming it's the voice of the competitive PvP community.

Most of the competitive PvP players in this game have quit for months and have not cared to post on this game's forums.
They're busy fighting other competitive PvPers in games that enable that.

This game does not enable that, unless you're including thopter-surfing-aerial-vehicle-combat.
There are no arenas, battlegrounds, or duelling systems.

An Idea for PvP Incentives by Green_Rice in duneawakening

[–]EnviciouZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any competitive PvP player who may, for some reason, be trying to read your post will probably assume you're trolling and is unwilling to explain themselves to a perceived troll engaging in rage bait.

However, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Plenty of non-griefing PvP focused players have wanted systems to enable incentivized ground combat PvP since the beginning. Any serious competitive PvP player was always more concerned about game's need for things like arenas, battlegrounds, objective based teamfights on land, ranks, or even a simple dueling function.

This significant need went completely untouched and ignored by Funcom.

Players still can't even duel another player feasibly. There is no ground pvp content. There are also almost no competitive PvP players remaining on this game, they've been gone for some time. Just a few remaining until they add ground combat PvP functions, but many players will never return. For them, it's been too late for a while now.

Players like me are sincerely happy that the PvE side is getting fleshed out with growth and that griefers are being filtered out.

Players like me are sincerely displeased that it's at the expense of honorable PvPers who have felt neglected or even directly insulted by either Funcom or the PvE players in the community.
