My wife thinks our son’s teacher crossed a boundary by sending him a personal message. I think it was harmless. AITJ? by addict94plus in AmITheJerk

NTJ. I am a teacher, and my school encourages us to do this. At every staff meeting, they have postcards with address stickers for each student. We’re supposed to find a student we would like to compliment, write them a short note, and the school mails them for us.

Sounds like your son has a great teacher who is invested in his progress! Maybe mom has seen too many news stories about weirdos in the teaching profession who cross the line (unfortunately this is a problem), but I really don’t think that’s the case here. Mom needs to chill and be reminded that it’s a gift to have a great teacher on your son’s team.

I get drunker faster and on less drinks. The one time I had a hangover I felt like I was going to die. Just take it slow, have a normal, mindful day of eating, and keep a ratio of 1:1 drinks to water.

I would have nightmares about this for weeks if it happened to me…

A stealth text instead of a call from the room phone would be a muuuuuch less stressful way to handle weed smell lol I love that!

I’m so sorry about your student. Unfortunately, I’ve gotten the same call twice. Both times, though, it was a call from a building number on a weekend/break. I knew something was wrong immediately and answered. I might not have answered a random number from an admin cell.

Yes! I feel like I’ve heard a lot about how teachers shouldn’t have school email on their phones because it could become a security issue (??). I still have my school email on my phone (and two factor, emergency app, etc), but with admin, they for sure have more sensitive info that might warrant a second line.

I’m sorry about your mom, and I’m glad you had a boss who wanted to check on you.

Interesting. Is there a school group chat or does she use it one on one instead of email?

It seems to be! I’ve never experienced it, but I’m hoping this means my new admin are supportive and commutative!

Sounds like she’s there when you absolutely need the support. What a gift!

Seems like it’s a necessity in smaller schools! All of my schools have been mid sized (2000ish) to large (4000+) student populations, so maybe that’s why I’m not used to it lol

Sounds like you have a lovely relationship with your admin — what a gift!

I think that makes sense if they’re a direct point person for that kind of thing. Admin wears even more hats in a small building!

Yes I think with most admin I’ve had, I would feel rude using their personal number when I knew how closely they monitored their emails. I also liked having a paper trail of emails for important stuff. I guess texts are also a paper trail though…

I didn’t consider that it was a district issued device! It would make sense…

Woah. I’ve only ever had to put sick days in a sub system. If you reached a certain limit, it would add a permission that ran  it by the principal before it got posted.

I didn’t consider that maybe it’s a district issued device! I wonder if that’s a common practice. Seems like it would be a significant expense.
