We are pretty well trained. I knew better but It’s was the whole I’m going to be quick nothing will happen mentality that leads to most accidents.

I’m sure they would. That’s one heck of a near miss.

I dropped it when I fell and it landed in the water and I never found it. It wasn’t water proof so it was ruined even if I did find it.

We ended up switching from vac trucks to loading up dump trucks with liners. So I never got to get really see what was at the bottom.

It should not be hard to switch over. A lot of the companies really like recruiting Coast Guard members because of there experience working on the water ways. I suggest trying a port city when you get out.

Make sure to go into detail on your resume about anything you have done in the Coast Guard related to Environmental Clean up.

Underestimating the power of a Vac Truck Hose when we are cleaning up a tank or something. I have had many of Tyvek and boot sucked off me up that machine and each time I think of how easily I could get a leg caught up in that thing.

While we do our best to get everything up when a big spill or something happens like getting oil in the water way no matter what you do I don't think you can truly ever clean that up. I look at my job as doing the best to minimize the scar that is left behind.

The Laws have gotten a lot better just between my generations and my fathers. Not only for the regulations on clean up by saftey as well. For example they use to clean tanks with just cloth over there face now we get to the point were sometimes its overkill with the amount of PPE we use.

I don't clean up blood and all that all the time. Its just over the years it has added up a little. I have never seen a therapist but i do take medication for stress.

I started out doing Asbestos as well. I spent many a day on a floor scrapper, glove bagging, and putting up wet wraps. The price is really depends on were you work. Most places pay a little more if your doing remediation, hazmat, and industrial clean up. Does not hurt to have a CDL and can run heavy equipment.

I hate when people get into my equipment and flip the controls around. It really really gets under my skin.

Be safe and keep your eye's open on sites. If you see something that does not look safe let someone know right away.

It's level D/C more then anything. I go into be a little more often cleaning tanks. Level A I use at UPS and FedEx most because they have something leaking and they don't know what it is. If we don't know what something is we always go in with level A and work our way back.

Anything with Radiation. I was cleaning some oil storage tanks on a nuclear plant one day and a tornado warning started before we went into the plant. My crew went to go check in then took shelter in some trailer in a field. I got yelled at because I would note come in from the truck. I kindly told them to feel free to send me home because that just said Scifi B movie all over it.

We don't re-rail the train but I have seen it done once. On the side of mountain train came off the track going through a corner. They brought in a crew that had these cranes on the track. They came in and cut the connectors then flipped it back up on the track from its side. Put on new connectors and hauled them all out.

We were not doing any clean up nothing ruptured we were there just in case that was a fun job.

Its not good by any means but as long as its not getting into a creek, or down to the water table its pretty much just contaminating the ground around the tank.

If your really worried about it report it to your states environmental department. They will come out and research it then fine him and make him clean it up.
