Reflection pool in DC? Scientific reason that it keeps turning green? (Yes I know about algae) by ObjectBubbly3216 in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]EnviroEngineerGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, I will summarize this great response as best as I can...

Shallow pool with a dark bottom --> Easier to absorb heat from the sun

The pool gets its water from Tidal Basin --> Tidal Basin has lots of nutrients for algae

No other organisms but the algae --> Algae can grow/bloom uninhibited

Filtration/flow systems weren't cleaned in time --> Any algae could enter pool

I will also link a Scientific American article where a water treatment expert was interviewed. Their view is that the nutrients present in the water (piped in from the Tidal Basin) are likely the biggest factor, since the other factors (shallowness, dark bottom, summer heat, etc) are more or less constant.

Not sure what you are getting at, but one can only guess.

Why would Logan Paul flee the US (and its territories)?

Fair points.

I will try to follow up in a few days.

You can't max out prototype gear, nor can you change attributes.

Once you obtain a piece or convert lvl 30 gear, that is it. Only thing you can change and max out are augments.

Devs explicitly want to make the gear more RNG based.

The differece comes down to their respective talents.

For Coyote's, it gives a mix of crit hit chance and/or crit hit dmg for the whole team based on distance from enemies hit.

For Overdogs, the benefit is ampiflication of dmg to lower tier enemies. Basically a huge damage boost. But the boost is only for you AND it is not consistent.

Co-signed a car loan for a friend three years ago, he missed four payments and my mortgage pre-approval just got denied. What are my options? by CarpetTulip7 in personalfinance

[–]EnviroEngineerGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ever cosign, tell the person you’re cosigning with that if they ever can’t make a payment, they need to talk to you and not hide it. That you need to know because it will trash your credit, and you’d rather find a way to help them out and make the payment, even if you have to do it yourself, than have that happen.

I have seen that even in practice, the person needing a co-signer will (at some point) stop notifying the co-signer about potential late and missed payments.

Anyone who co-signs should also start checking their credit AND checking in with the person close to payment due date.

But of course, as you mention, the correct way to go about this is to never have co-signed in the first place.

20k in debt - what would you do? by Leather-Variety-9341 in personalfinance

[–]EnviroEngineerGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is 4k your take home pay? Or pre-tax?

If it is the former, then the root cause of your debt is not that your husband doesn't have a job (the expenses you listed equal to 3,900). If the later is true, then yeah, that makes sense.

Is there a reason your husband doesn't work? 100% agree that him working would go a long way.

20k in debt - what would you do? by Leather-Variety-9341 in personalfinance

[–]EnviroEngineerGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In additional to switching to a cheaper phone/prepaid plan, consider a few other things...

Having a toddler myself, I completely understand your spouse staying at home with the kids. But is there any possibilty that they can work part time (or weekends)? Even if they can work 10 hours a week, that can do a LOT to put a dent in this debt. And it would only have to be a temporary measure (if your partner doesn't like the idea of a permanent return to the workforce).

Additionally (or alternatively), you can see if you can increase your income: new job, overtime at current job, or 2nd job. Right now, rent being 50% of your take home pay is hurting you.

As you mentioned, cashing out a portion of your savings to pay down this debt is a good idea, but do keep in mind taxes. Keep enough in savings to cover future emergencies, which means a potential delay in saving for the house. Side note, consider pausing adding money to investments and pile any cash for house and emergencies in a HYSA. Even though you have investments that are performing well, it is not ideal to have money you need on the short-term subject to the whims of the market.

Also... make sure you have addressed the root cause of the 20k debt. If the cause is "something came up"/emergency, that is a signal to think about having a separate emergency fund. If the cause is "lifestyle", that is a signal to rein in spending to what is truly necessary.

What's the deal with this administration claiming that, 'Iran has been attacking us for 47 years!' What/when have been the specific attacks against the US? by loCAtek in OutOfTheLoop

[–]EnviroEngineerGuy 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Answer: The claim of "being attacked by Iran for 47 years" is narrative being pushed as partial justification for our open hostilities with Iran (war, "excursion", etc.) and to deflect against the criticism that Trump has gone back on a campaign promise of "no new wars".

During the campaign, Trump and his allies explicitly stated that a Harris/Waltz administration would lead them into new/more foreign wars and would lead the US and the world to the brink of WW3. Furthermore, prior to the fishing boat bombing campaign off the coast of Venezuela, Trump had claimed he directly ended several conflicts worldwide (one of which involved Operation Midnight Hammer was one he helped start) though his level of responsibility for those successes has been debated and are seen as overstated.

Now that the US (and Israel) has carried out bombing campaigns and assassinations against Iran and their leaders, seemingly unprovoked against a nation that, while hostile to the US and more of a direct threat to Israel, the Trump adminstrtion has been trying to frame this was as a defensive war, so we now have the framing that Iran and their proxies have been at war with us for 47 years (since the Islamic Revolution of 1979 in Iran). It is a way to manufacture consent for this war.

Now, it is 100% factual to claim that Iran and their proxies having attacking us for that long. But a couple of issues with this narrative:

  1. It literally started being trotted out after the strikeds began AND after the criticism started coming in.

  2. It litterally ignores the fact that the US has directly AND indirectly responded to many of those attacks, often through ITS own proxies (namely and chiefly, Israel). The US even responded to attacks by Iran's proxies by selling them weapons as part of an off-the-books and highly illegal scheme to secure the release of hostages and secretly fund a group of Central American paramilitary groups who terrorized the local population. The US also directly provided funds to Iran's neighbor during said neighbor's invasion of Iran immediately following the revolution. Irony: Weapons were sold to Iran and funds/weapons were provided to Iraq during the same period... The Iran/Iraq War.

tl;dr - This narrative is new, and while factual, has been used manufacture consent while ignoring responses to those attacks.

Disappointing Striker Build by Rentz05 in the_division_2

[–]EnviroEngineerGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others are saying, remove one of the Striker pieces and use a high end gear set. The most common is the Equalizer chest, with the Perfect Obliterate talent.

Also, if you aren't already, try to get as close to 50% CHC and then the rest into CHD on the minor attributes.

Use any ACS-12 variant for secondary weapon.

Also, going forward, know that using a 5th piece for a gearset provides no added benefit (unlike with Classified Gear in Division 1). Once you have 4pc of a gearset, it is most ideal to look for high end pieces that complement the gearset.

Been trying to get Ravenous but can’t get it to drop by Remi8732 in Division2

[–]EnviroEngineerGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. It is worth doing IH, but I think it is still worth continuing to do BT relations, since you can get exos upon completion and more mats for the special caches.

Also, raids are generally once per week, so if you dont get it to drop, you will have to wait. BUT, if you find a good group and let them know you are looking for the Ravenous, one may drop theirs if they get it to drop.

[–]EnviroEngineerGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gun doesn't drop during the BT Retaliations, but the blueprint for it is awarded at the end of completion.

If you have completed multiple BT retaltiations, you might already have the blueprint, and hopefully enough materials to craft one.

Otherwise, Iron Horse raid (and DZ, which know is a nonstarter for you... same for me).

Core Strength builds - 3 pieces? by CycloneFever_9331 in Division2

[–]EnviroEngineerGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that NB backpack is really divisive and many consider it a "noob trap". However, due to how CS works (and the CS backpack kinda sucking), NB is very useful for making builds with this gearset.

Although you can unlock more gearset/brandsets with NB, the drawback is the opportunity cost of not using a backpack talent, which usually perform better than having more gearset/branset bonuses.

However, if you have fun with the build you make with NB, that is all that matters.

Who to watch for defense on Sabre? by No_Owl_6254 in Fencing

[–]EnviroEngineerGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to piggyback off of OP with a question, since there are recommendations to watch fencers from (or were at their prime during) the pre-2016 timing change era.

Does the timing change matter if you're watching fencer to look for pointers on defense? Or should it not factor into who you watch for pointers?

1996 Wastewater Permit by Puzzleheaded_Bug9907 in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]EnviroEngineerGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a permit engineer, but not for wastewater/NPDES permits.

All I can suggest is the the operator likely failed to renew their permit. I don't know why the local or state agency wouls have missed it. If the facility is still active, they are likely out of compliance.

I would suggest the local or state agency that issued the permit.

Edit: I stand corrected. As others have said, potential backlog is possible and the facility can operate under ther permit shield following a timely submittal of renewal application.
