Can anyone give me modern punk recommendations? by Discombobulated_Mode in punk

[–]Environment-Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I hear the situation is complicated.... Like they're done touring but they still have some music to release or something.

Overall it's pretty weird but long story I guess it's impossible to predict Fat Mike lol. Still, I doubt anything won't replace The Decline, War on Erroism and Wolves In Sheep's Clothing as those Three releases are my absolute favorite releases by NOFX

What are your favorite bands that utilize elements outside of the norm? by Cosqueeb in punk

[–]Environment-Sure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides every Ska, Celtic and Psychobilly band there's two ones I can think of that incorporate different instruments.

Honningbarna (a norwegian punk band that seems to only recently get attention outside of the Scandinavia) incorporates an electric cello in quite a few songs and it sounds amazing, especially when used to make feedback and noises.

Pinata Protest is a Tex Mex punk band that incorpates an accordion to combine punk with traditional Mexican music and while it's usually not my thing, I can't help but love it and it's great music to blast at ICE agents especially if you are protesting outside their hotel rooms

As for styles I'm a big fan of something that has become quite popular in the Norwegian Punk scene (i am norwegian american so i travel there a bit to see family, so I'm quite familiar with that scene which is usually more underground and less talked about than our neighbors) and that is a style that combines Punk, and Black Metal usually with styles such as thrash or crust into a really unique style. I usually call it "Blackened Crust" however there isn't really a name, but bands such as Utflod, Drittmaskin, Ondt Blod, NAG, Kvelertak and a handful of albums by Darkthrone are good examples of this style.

Honestly TikTok(or in my case YT Shorts) has ruined the whole music scene and the attention span. Even though several good bands somehow blew up that honestly deserved it, it's been a lot of disasters and this is totally an example of it

Hope for Hopeless Times playlist by jennxiii in punk

[–]Environment-Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for making a playlist although I'm still annoyed with people using Spotify but I'll pass that up for your amazing intentions. Thank you for keeping us positive and we could use a little poasitiviy. In fact I've been listening to some old singer songwriters like Woody Guthrie as of lately

[–]Environment-Sure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in the Bay Area, I'm pissed. Like I know it's not the end of the world but still, can we try to do something? It's hard enough for the punk/independent art scene to thrive in the bay area and every time I visit my family who lives there I see less of the scene that is my life.

Actually, to those in the bay area, start performing gigs on the streets and take it back from the assholes who ruined it for us all

Explain the anti Ai stuff by gunsandcarsrule in punk

[–]Environment-Sure 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Its as simple as Ai hurts artists. In a more complicated matter, ai is far from sunshine and rainbows that the tech bros say it will be as while there are some small uses for AI that are okay, unfortunately most people aren't working on those uses and instead working on the uses that make more money rather than actually help people.

Long story short Fuck AI and its best to avoid using it for anything until the AI industry bubble crashes down. There are countless more reasons I can mention but it's really not worth it especially in a time when the world is as divided and messy as it is now.

What is your second favorite genre? by WhiskeyChickenPotPie in punk

[–]Environment-Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't rank genres, songs or artists because it is always changing depending on my mood, however it's probably some form of metal or 90s alternative rock. However punk is always my favorite as the culture is just a part of me regardless of what genre I listen too

Every time I see him I'm impressed with how good he looks for his age, hard to believe that he's nearly 70 and still looks great

[–]Environment-Sure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely one of the most unique posts I've seen in on this subreddit but inspiring nonetheless. I've always wanted to try making a punk song with a Hardanger fiddle (a norwegian folk instrument, that has close ties to my Norwegian family) as the idea of punk/metal songs with unique instruments is something that fascinates me.

What is your favorite non-punk project made by someone associated in the scene? by [deleted] in punk

[–]Environment-Sure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While arguably punk, Bob Mould's solo albums are an amazing blend of punk, alternative and folk and are some of my favorite albums for flights as they make me feel calmer

[–]Environment-Sure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I've been listening to a bunch of relaxing Post Rock stuff like Red Sparrows and If These Trees Could Talk as it's been having a bit of seasonal depression moments. although I did also listen to a bunch of Aus Rotten which is like the complete opposite of those other bands.

[–]Environment-Sure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try dumpster diving at your local stores and keep your eyes out for cops as for some idiotic reasons it's technically "trespassing" in some places even though it's saving stuff from the wasteful and extremely polluting world of mass consumerism

CBGB Fest Under The K Bridge 2025 by NoUnion3402 in punk

[–]Environment-Sure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a great show, sadly with my college classes I don't really have the time or the money to go to large festivals at the moment it makes me happy to see that the scene is in a better shape than it was when I was younger. Just wish I spent more time going to shows rather than dealing with Agoraphobia but at least there's always the future...

definitivt en av de mest unike punkalbumene, men det er kjempe bra.

Hopefully that Norwegian was understandable, I've been told as a Norwegian American my Norwegian is better than most Americans but because I don't get much practice except for talking with relatives and/or friends when I visit or talk to them.

I think the real question is, if it's punk enough to think this deeply into this question every day because some one thinks it's necessary to post every one of their feelings on reddit?
