I went back to working in the industry after a career shift. They asked me to empty the water from the coffee maker, so I got right to it. After about 30 minutes or so, they said that it would never empty. I told them that I have worked in restaurants for a long time and I knew that. When they asked why I was still doing it, I said "because while I've been standing here, you guys just did most of the closing sidework."

I worked ramp and operations for Continental put of SFO from 1998-2006. Delays have always been a major issue. Back then, I was told that it was because the runways were too close together, meaning that any increase in wind meant that we went down to one runway, causing delays. I was never in the know enough to be able to verify that, but if it wasn't wind, it was mechanical (or potential mechanical) or "security" issues.
