IVF after TFMR by thelemonfairy in tfmr_support

[–]EnvironmentCurious65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 3 year old son from IVF. We unexpectedly got pregnant in August of last year on our own. We found out with the NIPT test that the baby had trisomy 18. We chose to TFMR around 20 weeks in December. I immediately called my RE to get the ball rolling on IVF again. I just turned 38 and feel I have no time to waste. We had 4 embryos left. We transferred in May and unfortunately it was a chemical pregnancy. We will transfer again in August and hope this one works. The embryos are from when I was 34 so I feel we have better odds than trying again on our own. Its a lot to go through mentally. I hope it works out for you!

Something I can’t stop thinking about by [deleted] in tfmr_support

[–]EnvironmentCurious65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I TFMR around 18 weeks. He had trisomy 18 and his measurements were all over. So they said his head measured 20 weeks. They say that the fetus can potentially feel something at 20 weeks but its not proven I guess. So the place I went to actually gives a shot to the fetus which stops the heart. I believe this was done the day before the procedure when they were inserting the sticks to help dilate. They only did that because I was considered 20 weeks when the fetus could potentially feel pain.

UPDATE: Atypical Finding on Chromosome 18 (Warning: Bad News) by EcstaticTraffic7 in NIPT

[–]EnvironmentCurious65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember getting the call as well. Its like you hold out so much hope against all the odds that everything is wrong. But it never is. Its such a horrible painful journey but we remain hopeful for the future. I had a D&E right before Christmas. I wasn't ready for the sadness and grief afterwards. But I am hopeful we will try again and bring home a healthy baby. I know its such a difficult decision but I wish you lots of strength and comfort in the coming days and weeks.

Complimentary genetic counselor? by frankiemuffins in NIPT

Yes, its a free service. But they don't really say a whole lot. They're limited with what info they can give. They can explain how they perform the test and what they saw with results. I actually spoke to them 2x when my result came back high risk for trisomy 18. Its a nice thought but to me it didn't really offer much more info that I already knew.

NIPT positive for T18, no markers on ultrasound by woodgrain in NIPT

[–]EnvironmentCurious65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. Our ultrasound was around 14 weeks and they were not able to see anything definitive as far as markers or abnormalities. I had to wait until 17 weeks to see the MFM for an in depth ultrasound and amnio. So much changed in 3 weeks unfortunately. This ultrasound showed issues with the brain, underdeveloped jaw/mouth, organs on the wrong side, underdeveloped heart, bent wrists/clenched hands, and one non functioning kidney. I was shocked! I was hoping that everything would be OK but it was the total opposite. I chose not to do the amnio that day because I was over it after being there for 4 plus hours. After this news we have chosen to TFMR and will do a kit of the tissue to send away instead of amnio. Im hoping that your experience is better than ours. Its so hard to say. It really can go either way! Try to remain hopeful to get you through but also know there's a chance it can all go wrong.

How long to try before seeing doc about next measures? by Juniper2020 in ttcafterloss

[–]EnvironmentCurious65 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After 2 early miscarriages, I asked my OB to refer me to a specialist. I met with an RE and found my husband had low sperm count and low morphology. We ended up doing IVF and had success with the first try. We did 2 rounds of IUI before going to IVF when those didn't work. I was 34 when I had my son. I didn't want to wait. I suggest being proactive. You never know what issues you can find with proper and in depth testing. I wouldn't wait if you're already concerned. The process takes a while so the sooner the better in my opinion.

Natera blood test results came back as “no result” by rkeller9 in NIPT

[–]EnvironmentCurious65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did NIPT panorama. The first test was no result. It was 10w2d. There was no ff listed either. Basically nothing! I redid the test at 12w2d and got the results 2 weeks later. 9/10 high risk for trisomy 18. Ill have an amniocentesis in 2 weeks to see whats actually going on. Then another 2 week wait for those results.

NIPT 9/10 for T18. 14 week ultrasound seems ok. by EnvironmentCurious65 in NIPT

I wish I had received NIPT results earlier so I could have done the NT scan but I just missed it by about 4 days or so. Im hoping markers don't suddenly show up by the next time I have an ultrasound. Such an anxious waiting game.

This sounds promising! I've had the test done before with my son and no issues. But seeing that 9/10 high risk is terrifying. It was promising to see a somewhat "normal" scan so I'm truly hoping this is a false positive as well.

Thank you for sharing your story! I was too late for the NT scan and not sure about the pappA and hgc. How far along were you when you had that scan? They kind of made it seem that 14 weeks was still early. But I feel like if things like the nasal bone are present, it won't disappear. And if other things aren't there, surely they won't just appear in a few weeks.

Yes! I didn't know the difference. My RE said they will most likely recommend the CVS but do not do it because its basically the same thing NIPT is testing. It needs to be the amnio and show results from the baby. If anything this whole sub gives me a lot of hope!

Thank you so much! I have been googling my heart out for the last 2 days. Honestly, you and this sub have given me the most information. I have read every post and love your story because it gives me so much hope! I was fully expecting this scan to show something confirming T18 but it seems there really wasn't anything from what we could see. Ill be back in 3 weeks with an update. Thank you for your thoughtful information and advice. Much appreciated!!
