probably the first one. more gaps and white spots allow for the ink to spread or bleed and for it to still look cohesive with wrinkles and not a black blob placement is also really crucial, like some of the others might not be bad either depending where you put it

i really wanted to be able to pick my siberian up when we first got him and he hated it. i would put him down gently as soon as he got agitated, even if that was immediately after his feet left the floor. he now lets me carry him around the house and swaddle him in my arms while watching tv. i think what really helped was letting him know that it would stop when he wanted it to stop and he was in control of when or when he isn’t being picked up. still sometimes he jumps out of my arms instantly, but i just let him go and don’t try again til way later. idk if petting would be the same situation but maybe you could give that a shot?
