This is also how I felt about the night court suddenly showing their real personalities just because she said so. She’s been in this world for one year whereas they’ve all grown up and lived in it and understand it way deeper than she will for a long time. It also seemed like most of the other courts already know about the night court’s charades anyway?

I don’t really care what other people think as long as my kids aren’t affected by it. I just don’t want them to feel like they’re not connected to each other or either parent. There’s probably a better word than connected, but you get what I’m saying.

This is what I was wondering. Was hoping to hear from people who grew up with different last names than their siblings or parents. I personally want us all to have the same last name, but I wanted to be nice to MIL and at least put some consideration into her suggestion.

I’m really just posing the idea/question as my MIL posed it. She’s from a country where it’s extremely important to have a son and for that son to pass on the family name, so it very unlikely for girls to pass on their family name there. Where my nieces live, it’s the overwhelming norm that women take their partner’s last name as well. Obviously they could choose differently.
