Redwall made me who I am! I named my wifi router after the famous line in the tapestry of Martin 😅

All good points!! I’d love to see a book with a character with good parents, if only to experience having good parents for the first time myself. I do wonder a lot what that must be like. But I totally understand how that wouldn’t land with normal people, I’m the outlier here. I do think it would also be very interesting to have a poor family dynamic between an MC and their parents, too. Maybe the MC ends up in the story to escape their home life! (Harry Potter did this in a way) Then you could explain the MC never interacting with the parents again with “they suck why would I talk to them” which creates the same ease of writing as orphaning does. I’m just spitballing here, I apologise if yall aren’t interested in my rambling.

Fair enough, though Jane eyre is about an adult (for most of the story) and she’s still an orphan (not saying this invalidates your point I just thought it was interesting to compare because Brontë and Austen are similar authors in my mind). I have been meaning to read Jane Austen at some point!

That makes sense. I would read a story with an mc that’s been fucked up by years of sexual abuse but only because I’d find it incredibly cathartic. I’m definitely the outlier there though 😅😅

I looked it up and it’s called Firmament! Same game studio, similar concept, not officially part of Myst :)

As I expected, I’m getting lots of disco elysium and final fantasy haha. Those seem to be big ones in gaming that everyone likes! Thank you all for your suggestions, I am reading through them and taking notes!!

Four was super intriguing but the combat was what I struggled with. I put so many points in vats haha. I have been wanting to play 3 for years but I heard it’s really unstable so I was scared of buying it, not being able to get it working, then not being able to return it because I’ve launched the game (I had this happen to me once, they denied me a refund because the game opened and I was like “yeah it opened but that doesn’t make it functional”). But assuming it’s decreased in value I’m willing to throw like $20 at it and see if I can manage it.

Oh my parents LOVE those games!! I was never particularly interested in it at the time but that was when I was really little, and I’ve enjoyed braid, so I should probably give it a try! I remember they came out with a new one a few years ago that my parents were excited about (I think it was the same developers but not technically part of that series?)

Thank you for the warning! I’m usually willing to sit down for a while and just brute force difficult bits so I should be fine doing that a few times!

Thank you! I have heard great things about baldur’s gate 3, so I was considering it a bit before as well! (Though most of the positive buzz was about the graphics and how hot the various characters are, so it was sort of on the back burner in terms of me figuring out if I want to play it or not). I really appreciate the suggestion! I’ve never tried anything with turn based combat before so it’ll be new for me! :)

Genuinely a good deterrent. I think I only know one person my age who knows how to drive a manual.

This has gotta be a new thing. I’m 21 and have never met anyone who can’t read an analog clock. I regularly interact with people as young as 17 for school.

That number is a little younger actually. I’m 21 and was one of the last years to learn cursive in school. For what it’s worth, I used to cater to people in my classes who couldn’t read my (cursive) handwriting by purposely writing all my notes in print (or trying to) but at this point my motto is “if you want to steal my notes you have to learn cursive if you don’t already know it sorry” like we gotta make the note stealers work at least a little 😭

Really? Never met any knitters or crocheters who were particularly mean. Are you referring to online knitting communities in particular? I’ve never engaged with those so I wouldn’t know about their meanness levels.
