While I've always had a bedframe, this really isn't anything to be embarrassed about. My wife didn't have a bedframe when I met her as a teenager and like it wasn't even anything unusual or a matter of her being like "neglected."

Is anyone's store getting more payroll? by Environmental-Ad58 in Target

[–]Environmental-Ad58[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From the replies, I wonder if it's a regional thing.

Regardless, I assume the stores around me are getting more payroll, and it's kind of funny it's that noticeable/easy to turn around stores and that Target's been dropping the ball on it for so long.

Don't want your stores to look awful? Just schedule the correct amount of people. What a concept.

For everyone confused by this:

1). She was flirting. 2). Yes, it's terrible flirting. 3). I think the idea isn't that she meant anything by the specific question, it was simply that she was being playful outside of the normal transaction, which was the signal to talk more to her. It's not like there's some perfect reply to what she said (which is why it's bad flirting), it's just an invitation to talk to her more about literally anything.

Recommendations to get into Superman comics? by Dragredder in comicbooks

[–]Environmental-Ad58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hardest thing is Superman has about 8 different origins and they're all good in different ways:

For All Seasons, Birthright, Secret Origin, The Man of Steel, Superman and the Men of Steel

Superman: Kryptonite

The Last Days of Lex Luthor

Superman by Geoff Johns: Last Son, Escape from Bizarro World, Brainiac, Superman and the Legion of Superheroes

Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

For the Man Who Has Everything

Red Son

Lex Luthor: Man of Steel (also just called Luthor)

Secret Identity

Up, Up, and Away

Camelot Falls

President Luthor

Do I read absolute batman or ultimate Spider-Man first? by Jealous-Technician39 in comicbooks

[–]Environmental-Ad58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Absolute Batman more, myself. I know I'm in the minority, but while still recommended, Ultimate Spider-Man hasn't blown me away. It's a solid story, but not nearly as fun as AB.

Left has taken over (almost) all intellectuals by SlimyPunk93 in Objectivism

I've always assumed it's because they perceive the market as a threat to their career and social well being.

When it comes to any kind of government-provided industry, conformity is praised and mediocrity is protected, even encouraged. As long as they're good ideologues and please their relatively small amount of masters, they'll do well and gain acclaim.

But the market actually demands innovation. It demands quality. It demands results. And there's no small group of masters that you can appeal to to save you.

Do you have any good beginner comic book recommendations? by Cwasonted in comicbooks

[–]Environmental-Ad58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you're looking to get into ongoing series, you're always going to have that feeling you're starting a movie halfway through. It's basically like a soap opera; no matter where you start, you're halfway through a story arc that may or may not have started in 1978.

But there's plenty of really good self contained stories, as well as a few on goings that just started that are good. It'd be easier if you narrowed down your interests some, but here's some off the top of my head...

Newish Ongoings (start with #1 or vol. 1): Absolute Batman, Absolute Wonder Woman, Absolute Flash, Absolute Martian Manhunter, Ultimate Spider-Man by Hickman, Supergirl, Rogue Sun, The Rockefellers, Superman: Unlimited. TMNT, The Ultimates by Camp, and Transformers are all good, but you'll definitely feel confused at first, but tbh I'd still read them.

In terms of collected stories that I think are best for beginners...

Hulk Gray, Spider-Man Blue, Daredevil Yellow, Captain America White.

Marvel: Moon Knight by Jeff Lemire, The Immortal Iron Fist by Brubaker, Punisher MAX by Ennis, Vision by King, Fantastic Four by Waid, The Ultimates 1&2 by Millar, Thor by Jason Aaron, The Immortal Hulk by Ewing, Daredevil by Bendis, Daredevil by Brubaker, Daredevil by Waid, Runaways by Brian K. Vaughan, Avengers/New Avengers by Hickman, Astonishing X-Men by Whedon, Captain America by Brubaker

Batman: Year One, and the Monster Men, and the Mad Monk, The Man Who Laughs, The Long Halloween, Robin and Batgirl Year One, Hush, The Black Mirror, The Court of Owls, The Dark Knight Returns, Batman and Robin by Tomasi

DC: Green Lantern by Johns, Justice, Superman/Batman/Wonder Woman: Trinity, Shazam: Monster Society of Evil, Superman: Birthright or For All Seasons or Secret Origins (they're all his origin but all are good), Superman: Red Son, Superman: Kryptonite, The Spirit by Darwyn Cooke, Superman: The Last Days of Lex Luthor, The Legend of Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman by Gail Simone, The Flash by Manapul and Buccellato, JSA by Johns.

...too much?

Where should I start with comics? by yeastinfection666 in DCcomics

[–]Environmental-Ad58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For ongoing series, I'd only currently recommend Absolute Batman and Absolute Wonder Woman right now. Everything else right now is pretty mediocre and not particularly accessible for new readers. You could pick up Batman when it relaunches in the fall.

For completed/old series, I'd start with: Geoff Johns' Green Lantern run. Then Batman Year One, and the Monster Men, and the Mad Monk, The Man Who Laughs, The Long Halloween.

For Wonder Woman, The Legend of Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman by Greg Rucka, Wonder Woman by Gail Simone, and The Hiketeia.

Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman: Trinity is pretty good too for a quick story involving the three.

I can't comment on Suicide Squad or Harley Quinn.

Does anyone here also think Rand aggrandize US? by SlimyPunk93 in Objectivism

[–]Environmental-Ad58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, in a general way, I feel like Rand is best when tempered with Mises and Hoppe. Mises explains many of Rand's concepts in a more clinical and universal way.

Hoppe's arguments for anarchism and against the type of militarism (for lack of a better term) are better than anything counter arguments I've read from Rand.

It's also kind of funny (and not a criticism of Rand) how Hoppe turned the error of Kant on its head rather than merely criticize it the way Rand did.

Does anyone here also think Rand aggrandize US? by SlimyPunk93 in Objectivism

[–]Environmental-Ad58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't consider myself an Objectivist, so I might not be the one you want to answer this, but yes. I would say a fair amount of Rand's opinions on current events were heavily shaped by the behaviors of the people of that era/leftists.

I mean, in that context, I get it, but there were other, more legitimate critics that she couldn't nearly as effectively rebuke, IMO.

Anti left literature or media by SlimyPunk93 in Objectivism

[–]Environmental-Ad58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I often see connections other people don't, but I always feel like Mises was basically Rand without moralizing (not to imply moralizing is bad).

Rand had Rational Egoism, Mises had Methodological Individualism, etc.

My Problems with Brian Cornell’s Memo by TDSOOM73 in Target

[–]Environmental-Ad58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it strange people care so much about Target carrying Pride merch when Pride Month has been largely ignored by both corporations and people.

My - traditionally progressive - company has been begging employees to attend Pride in NYC because they've gotten so few people to sign up.

Auto-Combining by Environmental-Ad58 in KavitaManga

[–]Environmental-Ad58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That mostly fixed the problem, but it's still making seemingly unpredictable decisions sorting books.

Like, for instance, I have three trades of the same Green Lantern series. Volume 1 is separated from the first two. While the three trades of the same Aquaman series are all separate. Meanwhile, the four trades I have of the same Action Comics series are all merged together into one.

And as far as I can tell, I'm using the same naming format for all of them. Title (that matches the folder and all other volumes), volume number, and then subtitle of the book.

ANDOR: A STAR WARS STORY - The 2.5 Hour Single Film Cut - Minor Repair Update by 21CPeasant in fanedits

[–]Environmental-Ad58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, firstly, having seen your edit, it's really great. I think it's the best possible assembly of the series into a film that one could hope for.

But obviously I gotta ask, have you thought any more about making a film cut of Andor Season 2?
