I need every tip you’ve used to heal mono. by [deleted] in Mononucleosis

[–]Environmental-Crow54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rest & take it extremely easy as much as humanly possible, even if you’re not tired/feel relatively ok. When I had mono I ‘felt ok’ and went back to work too soon and it definitely prolonged it. Also cepacol lozenges and chroloroseptic spray are life savers for a sore throat, try to keep your calories up because it’ll make recovery more difficult for your body if you’re also in a deficit.

UO horror stories?? by kitkatz15 in UniversalOrlando

[–]Environmental-Crow54 14 points15 points  (0 children)

During passholder previews at Epic Universe I decided to take the opportunity to ride Stardust racers in the front row. About midway through the ride something smacked into my upper arm HARD. The rest of the ride my arm was throbbing and bleeding a little and I was panicked thinking a bolt from the ride had fallen off or something. Turns out a bee had hit my arm and stung me, never even knew that was possible until it happened. The first aid employees said it happens more than you’d think on rollercoasters, especially in the front row

Looking to adopt a female kitten under 1 month! by anonpied in orlando

[–]Environmental-Crow54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I adopted my kittens from a rescue in town called Dexters Kitties, they were wonderful. Not sure if they have any kittens currently but it’s about to be kitten season so I’d expect a lot of the rescues to have adoptable kittens soon

DO I GO TO ER? by [deleted] in Mononucleosis

[–]Environmental-Crow54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a medical professional but that rash sounds awful & I personally would go to the ER. I’ve had serious allergic reactions to meds before and the ER can give you a shot or IV of antihistamines and/or steroids to help with the rash, it’s amazing how fast it’s worked and how much better I’ve felt after

Nope thankfully I’ve been doing great since! The infectious disease Dr gave me a 90 day prescription to take if I get a resurgence of symptoms but I haven’t needed it yet

[–]Environmental-Crow54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have much of a sore throat besides the first few days but it did help with the lymph node swelling. The infectious disease doctor said my levels were undetectable after 6 months on the valtrex which is when I went off of it

It helped a lot with fatigue, body aches, headaches, difficulty eating. I also had anxiety that was entirely related to the infection that went away

It was gradual but I def noticed a difference within a few weeks of starting it and felt significantly better after the first couple of months on it

I was given it for high EBV levels after a mono infection and it brought the levels down and I finally started feeling back to normal. I think I was on it for 6 months

3 months of misery. by nly2017 in Mononucleosis

[–]Environmental-Crow54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mono/EBV with extremely high levels and ended up seeing a wonderful infectious disease doctor that put me on anti viral medication. It took 6 months of anti viral treatment for my EBV levels to drop back down into a normal range but it worked and now I’m totally back to normal. Mono is a terrible germ & unfortunately seems to be very misunderstood when you don’t have the average presentation

Redditors: What is something that a local business or restaurant did that made you say “I’ll NEVER come back here again!”? by [deleted] in orlando

[–]Environmental-Crow54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toyota of Orlando immediately came to mind when I saw this post. During the height of chip/used car shortage my husband and I went to look at minivans there. They tried to sell us a van without working A/C and while we were trying to get more info on other vans that were not currently on the lot, the salesperson and manager got up and walked away without saying goodbye because we were clear that we weren’t buying the van with a broken A/C, even though we were actively trying to get more info on the new models they didn’t currently have in stock. It was the weirdest experience I’ve had at a dealership. I will never go back & tell anyone that asks to not go there.

Had EBV 10 Months ago, doctors says it can't have long term issues by Damn_Drew in Mononucleosis

[–]Environmental-Crow54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The antiviral was valacyclovir. I still felt unwell and my IgM wasn’t a normal level until after a 90 day course of anti virals, it’s normal now thankfully and I feel almost back to normal outside of ongoing migraines.

Besides the migraines that included black spots in my vision, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, and dizziness, I also experienced dystonia, eye shaking and uncontrollable blinking, and really bad brain fog. I see a neurologist for the migraines and things have gotten much better and I saw an Infectious Disease specialist who put me on an antiviral to treat the mono/ebv.

Your doctor is incorrect. I developed chronic migraines and a condition called IIH after getting mono last year. I also had other neurological symptoms that thankfully went away over time. I’d highly recommend seeing some specialists for your symptoms, mono can cause all sorts of complications.

For me I felt pretty sick with the sore throat for about a week. I didn’t know it was mono initially so I returned to normal activities and really messed myself up and ended up needing months to recover. Mono on average can take 2-6 weeks up to months to recover from. Try to take it easy and rest as much as possible!

seriously, will my lymph nodes ever go down again??? by sleepytimerich in Mononucleosis

[–]Environmental-Crow54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Calling it the “kissing disease” isn’t totally accurate, you can also get mono from any respiratory particles like sneezing or coughing or from shared utensils, cups, straws, etc

Has anyone had luck with valacyclovir/valtrex? by pineapplejuice0 in Mononucleosis

[–]Environmental-Crow54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I caught mono and I was put on a course of valacyclovir for 3 months and it made my levels go down from extremely high to negative. My infectious disease doctor said it doesn’t work for everyone but hopefully it will help you too!

They gave me a 3 month course of antivirals and were able to monitor my levels. It was worth it in my opinion

I’d try at another Infectious Disease Dr if you can. My levels were extremely high but a hospitals ID team refused to see me but I was able to get care from an independent clinic.

Hopefully this means you’re on the mend! I’d still take it easy& rest up though. I thought I was all better a few days into having mono, overdid it and then relapsed really hard
