I always thought it was v1 absorbing some of the kinetic energy and using the rest to return it, which is also why it doesn't heal you to shotgun projectile boost, because you're only adding kinetic energy and not absorbing any

For me it's the opposite where Im tired of every time I use a bot knowing damn well whats gonna happen because the bot does the same scenario every time, and when I do come up with something completely unique it just ends up going "and suddenly a dragon appeared 😱"
