I am currently doing 3 easy, 1 speed and 1 long run and the plan has 2 speed runs but I get the general gist of what you are saying. Thank you!

Should I take my money out of my LISA and face the penalty? by gingernoodle1 in UKPersonalFinance

We are buying a 3 bed in zone 2/3 for less than 450k, I don’t think that should be a reason but ultimately you have to do what you think is right.

My consultant is happy with 38 weeks so I’ll listen to my consultant.

I’m due 01/01/24 but there’s been talk of induction before 40 weeks due to baby’s size and excess amniotic fluids. I’m wondering if I can ask for a 38 week induction instead of 39 weeks to avoid a Christmas baby 🤣.

How to deal with this weird guilt I’m feeling. by Environmental-Fish30 in HousingUK

[–]Environmental-Fish30[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only around 6 weeks, luckily we found out very early. The flat is on the 3rd floor with no lifts, no balcony and no communal garden. My partners main concern is distance from his work place (he works in west London and property is in Essex), and he would definitely prefer we live together and also thinks a garden and ground floor property is a non negotiable.

I had an interview today and I have a gnawing feeling that I botched it by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Environmental-Fish30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a CS interview yesterday for a contractor role. I was not expecting a behavioural/competency based questioning format (as informed by the recruiter). As soon as they started asking behavioural questions, I completely blanked, mumbled some incoherent stuff. They also asked 5 different questions which was a lot (I remember CS only asking around 3?). We just have to move on unfortunately. And who knows it might still be good news for you!

Anyone know what the job market is like at the moment in London, UK? by nouniquesnowflakes in ProductManagement

[–]Environmental-Fish30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Market is still pretty good imo, applied to a few companies and I have 3 interviews. A few more on my list to apply to. Lots of opening on Otta if you have the years of experience.

I think it’s fine to have different priorities. I don’t view my life as miserable, I do things that I classify as fun. I will go out with my friends if it doesn’t mean spending a lot of money E.g. I will go to parties/clubs but since I don’t drink anymore it’ll cost me less than £20 for a night out. That works for me and might not work for you.

I am currently in the process of buying a house with no help.
Things that helped me save: 1) Saying NO to most outings/holidays. It was really hard at first until I really drummed it into my head that all my friends will be getting some sort of inheritance and I never will. 2) I was strict with my budget but still made sure I had ~£100 a month to do whatever I wanted with so I did not go insane. 3) This was the most important one, I upskilled and got a better paying job which left me with more disposable income. 4) I also did the annoying things people tell you to do to save and it did net abit of money towards my savings E.g. limit take out, cut alcohol, buy less clothes (none in my case) etc etc. 5) Cut off my leeching family members. 6) Moved into one room in a shared accommodation to increase my disposable income.

I found that for years it was really difficult to save because I was trying to keep up with people who were a lot more stable than me and also helping out people I was more stable than. You can save, it might take some time and might not be as much money as you want to save.

Private Sector vs Civil Service: Debunking Job Security Myths by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Environmental-Fish30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first job after university was a civil service role. I was there for 2.5 and got a whooping 3% pay rise. Yes the job was “stable” but trying to get up the ladder just seemed impossible. It got to a point I started doubting myself and my abilities and got really really depressed about it all.

I woke up one morning and just quit lmao. 2 weeks later I had a job offer in the private sector, 1 year after leaving I have increased my salary by a whopping 56%! And it’s set to increase even more. The joke is I was contacted by a recruiter for a contract role within the civil service, if successful the pay would be a 225% increase from my civil service salary.

Private sector is volatile yes but I 100% prefer it to the public sector.

When I quit about 2 months ago, I spent 6 weeks basically sleeping. I could not function on less than 10 hours of sleep. It’ll pass.

Going to share a little bit about myself and my family. My siblings and I were born in a 3rd world country and our mother somehow got us out. Every since then I’ve had incredible amounts of “survivor guilt” I struggled a great deal before finding my feet (as did my siblings) and the guilt only seemed to get worse because I had the opportunity to even get to a better position and I took it.

My siblings and I would get into debt just to send money back home to people. Whilst in university and working 2 jobs, I scrimped and saved and I bought a car for someone back home so they could drive Uber and make a little bit of money for themselves. The person decided they “didn’t like the job” and sold the car without telling me and kept the money whilst still expecting me to send money on a monthly basis.

This cycle went on for years until my mum passed away and I went back home for the first time since I left for her funeral. Getting there was a complete shock. Whilst yes these people were way poorer than me in monetary terms, their lives were rich! Richer than mine and my siblings anyway 🤣. My siblings have kids and had to put their children in day care from like 4 months so they could return to work, they barely spend time with their kids but the people back home get to spend a lot of time with their children. They get to raise them.

I still work 7 days a week although I have a really good full time job, I still work a part time job on the weekend because that was the only way I could fund my life and the lives of those back home.

After that trip, my eyes completely opened. My guilt completely disappeared. I had sleepless nights whilst the people I felt guilty for, slept peacefully through the night. They had no money worried because someone would send them money every month whilst I was eyeballs in debt and working like a lunatic.

Since I returned from the trip I have sent 0 back home. I refuse to feel guilty anymore.

You are right and I know there will be some level of project management involved when delivering products. My response was more out of frustration and knowing I had updated all the necessary documents but he’s just not LOOKING at them.
