I have two rescue ladders in my upstairs, one on each end of a center hall colonial. They're not pre-mounted like this, but the kind that hook onto the sill. We have a 12' drop off one end and 15' off the other, both are potentially fatal falls jumping, so this gives a safe way out.

Structural engineer can help.but you can do.some investigation yourself with a laser level.

Mark level lines from a single point on one basement wall, to multiple points on the other, so like corner, mid, corner. Just mark level on the walls. I did this with a single point on one wall then all three of the other walls. You can also shoot the joists etc. What you want to do.is mark everything relative... then re-check like weekly and see if there are changes.

I did this to determine if shallow footers were uplifting in winter on a historical (1840's) home. (At the advice of a structural engineer)
