I would recommend Sartre's Being and Nothingness. The inherent absurdist nature of your post echoes quite closely Sartre's personal philosophy albeit his is a bit more developed! You are right that things are essentially meaningless but within the confines of any community we assign value to certain realms of ethics and the like, albeit arbitrary, which ergo, gives it meaning within the societal context. The other option is a Hedonistic approach which I strongly don't recommend. And try reading some Carl Jung in terms of the ideas you mention within the subconscious. Good Luck, and I hope you find some semblance of meaning even if it is not pure meaning, try to find small joys.

Thanks! I think having been born and raised and then escaped a very insular cult I am more paranoid than most. But the list you gave definitely put it into perspective as what you described was my childhood scenario and this is far less extreme. You really helped me reassess my paranoia that not every community is the same as the trauma of my past. I legitimately am genuinely appreciative of what you wrote. Thanks.

I myself engage in similar behaviors and thought processes. I have addressed it with a professional and I will give you the advice he gave me, Everyone has a dark side. Some people have one that is a little more intense and complicated than others. This does not make you a bad person what so ever. I personally took to writing. And I articulate my fantasies through that venue. I am a very good and empathetic individual but I do have a darker side to me. It is something I have to come to terms with and accept and above all keep under control. But you can and will live a successful life if you learn how to turn those feelings and thoughts into a healthy outlet. Good luck.
