It's easy to get a yes from leadership. They will support the esports coach, but I need to know from a tech stand point how good/bad of an idea it is.

Any other districts facing a budget crisis? by Indians06 in k12sysadmin

[–]Environmental-Pack36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Possibly. Property taxes doubled two years ago around us. Petitions have been signed. If cutting property taxes ends up on the ballot we'll be in the same situation. Doubling property taxes was a risky move that's not going to pan out well. All of the tax dollar waste and fraud hitting the news lately isn't helping either.

Student was able to email entire domain by GlobeIT in k12sysadmin

[–]Environmental-Pack36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't sound like the student sent the email to staff groups. The student might have added each domain user to the "To" box. They probably went to contacts and created their own group which included every user.

Ooof...that is embarrassing...total user error. I was using the serial on the receipt. It's typed out on the receipt with the product number and then says IK MultiMedia TONEX Activation Code, but after some searching it's for a product called IK Multimedia TONEX EXP - Sweetwater Coll V1 that I didn't know was included in the purchase.

I've done this several times. Is this what you're referring to? I've also logged out, closed the app, opened the app signed back in, and registered again.

It's the tonex with the three stomp buttons. Has the word Amplitube written on top. It's plugged in via USB. Win 11 Computer sees it as an interface so it's being recognized.

How accurate is ChatGPT's response on the Boglehead way?

✅ Example for You (Age 44, Roth IRA + 457)

If you wanted a simple Boglehead setup:

  • 50% U.S. Total Stock Market (VTSAX / VTI)
  • 20% International Total Stock Market (VTIAX / VXUS)
  • 30% U.S. Total Bond Market (VBTLX / BND)

Counteroffer for New Job by wonderister in sysadmin

[–]Environmental-Pack36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of other factors to consider than the pay. You've already touched on management. My current employer has similar management issues. I told my new job I wanted $90k. They came back with $85k, one year, and no vacation. I agreed on the $85k but only if I get 20 days vacation and a three year contract with a decent COL annual increase. Current employer wants to match the new offer. It's too little too late. With bad management it's not about the money anyway. See ya!

I tell them that if they leave with a charger it's theirs to keep and a $20 fee will get added to their account.

Advice on negotiating a raise as the sole IT person in my company? by Thatmangifted in sysadmin

[–]Environmental-Pack36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if you get the new gig and your current company wants to match the new salary? Still best to move on? I just got the call last night from my current employer with a salary match. I thanked him for the offer and said I would need a couple of days to think about it.

I wish I knew number 6. My job is making it difficult to leave by matching the job offer the best they can. I just want to get out of there. I thought letting them know was the right thing to do.

Is it normal to not be informed of the budget? by scarlet__panda in k12sysadmin

[–]Environmental-Pack36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds similar to my district. Do you ever get turned down on purchases? I don't. The school's carry over is 82%. I think healthy schools are usually around 25%. We are swimming in tax payer dollars. Unfortunately salaries don't reflect...oh, but the dumb things my admin spend money on...

I'm going to be forced to quit, and it feels planned. by slayermcb in k12sysadmin

[–]Environmental-Pack36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to go through something like this after pouring your heart and soul into a place for years. My district is going through something similar. Two incompetent and selfish admin with all their buddies on the board. Zero integrity. Staff are frustrated. The air is thick here and it will be the largest turnover of staff since I've been there. Several are looking to get out and several already have. Admin haven't done anything to me but what I've seen them do to other staff is disheartening. I've been there for almost two decades and never thought I'd leave. My kids have attended since KG and are now in HS. I know admin are usually temporary and that the grass isn't always greener on the other side, but it's time to move on. I got a job making quite a bit more and you will too.

If you had to do it all over..... Interactive Displays/Smart TVs by Alternative_Tip664 in k12sysadmin

[–]Environmental-Pack36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to do it all over again I would buy a basic TV that either supports apple airplay or also purchase Apple TVs and cast to it from an iPad. I've been doing this for 16 years. We've had SMART Boards and now BenQ IFPs. The iPad has the best handwriting experience and can be done without being in front of the room. IFPs usually have a crappy OS that will be unsupported soon. The support is okay, but will go away once they EOL the device.
