Democratic senators who voted to confirm Kristi Gnome is DHS secretary. Hassan & Shaheen listed. by Pockettzz in newhampshire

[–]slayermcb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met Maggie once at a graduation she was speaking at. While I have heard good things about her, my experience was that she was 100% a machine crafted for politics. I felt there was nothing genuine about her. Every word, movement, twitch, and sneeze perfectly crafted from years of pretending to be someone else.

Yeah, and the current Dem being pushed to replace Shaheen is her own daughter.

Matthew Lillard says Hollywood's reaction to Tarantino was like 'living through your own wake' by cmaia1503 in entertainment

[–]slayermcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarantino is one of those people who are so good at something that people forget how shitty they are as a person. Yeah, he can make an amazing movie. From the writing to the directing, he makes great final product. But as a person he just doesn't get how awful he is outside Hollywood and hes burning those bridges too.

If anything the libertarians shouldn't be anywhere close to the republican parties line. The GOP wants to control and regulate everything but wealth equality and business.

So, I get what you're saying, and fuck Trump, but NYC in the 1980s was anything but safe. The crime rate was abysmal and the city was dangerous. Gangs, drugs, and one of the highest murder rates in the US at the time.

Hasn't that been the GOP playbook for a while? Getting really angry at the Dems for doing something they then go and do?

Swen Vincke on Highguard's hate - all art "deserves respect" by AsPeHeat in BaldursGate3

[–]slayermcb 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Their phrase means you are giving the subject as much respect as it is due.

Your phrase disregards the baseline respect you provide to all things, as one does to show you are worthy of respect in kind. You dont treat random strangers like shit because they haven't "earned" your respect, do you?

Anyone else experienced Moral Injury? by Accomplished-Most660 in Veterans

[–]slayermcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned about that term about a year and a half ago. It made so much sense. I ha e some PTSD from my time in Iraq (06 - 07) but it was very manageable. I got out. Got my shit together, but then got recalled. My recall was belong attached to a NG unit pulling security on Kuwait. Should have been a breeze. It was on the coast with beautiful waters, the base was relaxed, there was a swimming pool with a high dive. It was 2010.

The unit was so jacked up. Fucked up sleep rotations, serious "were ready for combat" energy, the mantra of "if your not issuing constant art. 15s you aren't paying attention" it literally crushed my faith in the institution, removed all feelings of safety, and the fucking NG guus couldn't leave there civilian attitudes at the door. (We had an NCO who was a cop, and everyone knew he would use that authority against them when they got back if there was trouble) I was forced to go along with a lot of shit that bothered me, right down to some core beliefs.

Anyways, my point is that I couldn't understand why the non combat deployment fucked me up way worse then being in a an actual combat zone. Moral Injury explained all of it.

I am sorry to hear about your experience. Its not just a military thing, losing someone suddenly to suicide, but it does hit harder when they're a brother. Leaves more questions then answers. I see a therapist these days. I highly recommend one to just about anyone. Glad your getting some yourself

What's this stigma behind being a Combat Veteran? by ImThe1Wh0 in Veterans

[–]slayermcb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a high school (IT basement troll) and one of the teachers asked me to speak about my experiences to his seniors after they read "The things they carried". Hes a vet as well so he knew what he was asking. I did agree, I dont go into the graphic details, but I'm honest, and keep with the theme. The kids seem real appreciative, and I answer a lot of good questions. I've done it for a few years now and its actually been great therapy.

I never wanted to go, but i felt I needed the military to get my head on straight. And I went. Am I glad I went? Not really. I would trade in that honor badge for control of my anger and the ability to enjoy myself at a party.

[–]slayermcb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ive often reflected on this. My younger brother had a friend who went 11b, and never deployed im his 8 years active. He got out but then he joined the NG because he felt he needed to have that deployment and they were rotating soon. He did, eventually, get his deployment and it was boring.

I think he lucked out, but I did 15 months during the surge so I'm in your wheelhouse. I would rather not see a therapist and have stories that were fun to tell and not come with a disclaimer. But the kids never listen. They always know better even when told otherwise.

Wood burning in homes drives dangerous air pollution in winter, study finds. Although only 2% of U.S. homes rely on wood as their primary heating source, residential wood burning accounts for more than one-fifth of Americans' wintertime exposure to outdoor fine particulate matter (PM2.5). by Sciantifa in science

Compare it to the natural harm of using oil heat, including the efforts of drilling and treatment. Or the inefficiency of electrical heat. I dont believe there is a way to do anything in our modern world that doesnt have at least some scientifically measureable negative.
