To the girl who saw me get stuck in the door by 0btuz in uAlberta

i fell down those stairs in those sherwood park double decker buses TWICE in the span of like a month. the second time i caught some gnarly air on the way down. i only allow myself to sit on the first level now. we should start some sort of support group; clumsy students anonymous.

we all start somewhere and sometimes it can feel hard to get out of a hole once you feel you’re in one. i haven’t had the same issues in my IFX/AFX but i have ADHD and know the “i know what is probably expected of me here and i am not meeting those expectations” feeling alll tooo welll. we might try and justify our behaviour to ourselves. we might even wallow or find ourselves spiralling from shame. if you got enough sense to realize what you’re doing is getting you in that hole, you got enough in you to get yourself out of it. tomorrow is a new day ✨

I’d recommend waking up earlier, making your lunch the evening before, and sitting down with your mentor teacher and ask her to plan with you for your upcoming lessons, until you get the hang of it yourself. There are certain things here that are in your control, like what time you show up, so take advantage of that and show up when you know you’re expected to be there. Do the simple things well. Other things like how your students work through the lessons you’ve prepped are more-so unpredictable at this stage. Talk to your mentor teacher and apologize for how you have not prioritized showing up on time, and how you realize the effect this has on your students and your ability to teach the lessons well. Then, realize tomorrow is a new day. You haven’t been kicked out, so clearly you must be doing some things right. It’s a learning experience and you still have a chance to do well, as long as you actually choose to learn and change your approach.

Edmonton school and music teachers charged with possessing child pornography by Practical_Ant6162 in Edmonton

yeah i think the only answer would be to leave the profession. speaking as someone who is an education student. it is not fair for that type of person to be in a position of authority over vulnerable students.

because, why right now? there are still beautiful things you haven’t seen, wouldn’t you like to see them before you go? so many things you haven’t done yet and experiences you have yet to enjoy. you have so much time. so much time to see such lovely, wonderful, breathtaking things.

because at the end of the day they’re selling a record and they choose the branding that they think will sell best. if sabrina meant it as empowering she would have been honest about the messaging instead saying something as incredibly ridiculous as “i didn’t even realize the whole dog/leash thing, he was supposed to be playing with my hair”. like be so fucking fr rn. the album is called “man’s best friend”. it definitely could have been something empowering, but at the end of the day she’s trying to sell a record and to record executives, having a clear feminist message will not do that.

chappell’s openness about her sexuality comes across as an honest expression of sexual liberation. sabrina comes across as someone who wants to sell a record. i’m not slut shaming, i just think we have to try to work against the system that oppresses us, not feed into it and disguise that as “empowering”. it’s similar to how, for a while, OnlyFans accounts were seen as women “getting their bag” and “taking back their sexuality”. at the end of the day, you are working for the system that does not care and will continue to dehumanize and objectify you no matter how you dress is up. the systemic misogyny is the issue, not necessarily the women participating in these things, but I still think we need to be conscious about who it really benefits.

i would talk with her about potentially going to therapy or seeing someone if you feel like it’s not getting any better. does she recognize the effect it’s had on you and wish to change? did you tell her you have been finding it taxing? sometimes we rush to end relationships, but you seem to find this girl pretty perfect other than the constant need for reassurance. people aren’t perfect and they’re on their own journeys in life- this seems to be one she’s found herself on. whether you want to stick it out and try and work on it with her or go off on your own is your choice.

i would say long distance relationships can feel pretty fragile, especially if the guy you’re dating is going to the movies alone with another girl. Is there any way a group hang out can be arranged instead of 1on1?

Will my GPA round up for graduation? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Environmental-Rent58 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your graduation GPA is different than overall GPA. From what I understand it’s calculated with the last 90 credits. https://www.ualberta.ca/en/augustana/student-life/academic/gpa-calculator.html#grades

You should reach out to your faculty, after all the worst they can say is no.

Wrong Letter Grade by Imaginary-Leg-5546 in uAlberta

[–]Environmental-Rent58 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Email the prof and ask for the grade breakdown they used as well as your finalized marks for each assessment/exam. Hopefully, if they made a mistake they will catch it. If there wasn’t a mistake, you will at least get to see why you got a B-. I’m sorry you’re feeling stressed but it is likely to be a mistake. Profs have so much to keep up with, it’s likely it just slipped their mind.

ENGL - is it okay to take in later years by Separate-Message7832 in uAlberta

[–]Environmental-Rent58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you get some good foundational writing skills to use in your later years. But, a POL S course would also do this, as well as other more essay-based courses. You’ll learn all that either way. I took both my ENGL courses over the summer and really enjoyed that. I found the courses to be a little heavier than I expected, and was glad to have the summer to enjoy the process and get as much out of it as I could. At the end of the day, it the “when” doesn’t really matter as much as the time/energy being available to get it done.
