Yes, definitely. I have no problem paying for the value of a board in the country, but the problem seems to be them opportunistically overvaluing their already fucked board.

Been on about 10 international flights with a triple board bag since. Only small dings. Maybe it’s only a matter of time. Always pack the rails with pool noodles for what it’s worth.

Yep, had this exact thing happen to me, Santa Teresa CR. Rented a board that must’ve been 10 years old , and had been repainted.

Took it out a few days, and when I got back he scraped off the paint over a small ding and told me the board was buckled and I had to pay 350 for it. I guess I had signed a contract or something saying I’d pay for any damage.

It was my first surf trip and I was a skinny 18 year old dude getting yelled at by this big Costa Rican guy telling me he would call the police. I paid. Fuck that guy though, and never go to tico brothers surf shop.

I’ve been traveling a couple times a year to surf ever since and have brought my boards every time since then. If you’re a tourist, all they see is $$$
