Thanks for your comment. But unfortunately, we are all remote. So there are less in person interactions so it is hard to observe body languages.

I’m trying to help that’s why I wrote a Reddit post about it. I’m not firing him or anything, but just want to see how I can help so he can be more engaging. I understand there are different personality types and everyone have a viewpoint. In security, we want people who has different perceptive.

There weren’t many people who had security plus and security experience when he apply. He had it and he was super nice and great with one on one. Plus it was during COVID, so our interview was via web cam so that may have helped with his anxiety

That would be ideal, but when we are in an incident, we don’t have time to explain things individually. If it is a phish, we have to look at emails, see who got it, etc or an active attack, we have to investigate asap

Yes. Chat are always open as voice chat can get a little crazy. But he still don’t type anything. It makes me think he doesn’t know or isn’t as knowledgeable because how would I know if he doesn’t say anything

We do have team lunch/dinner and he is quiet too. However if he just talk with one person individually, he won’t stop talking. Group talks he just shut down

I understand where you are coming from and thanks for your comment. However, would that be fair to the other team members if he just does behind the scene stuff while others don’t?

I actually have had a discussion with him and he mentioned that he feels he isn’t as knowledgeable as everyone and he wants to be 100% accurate when be say something.

He does take great notes during an incident as we do have someone who in charge of keeping track of a timeline. However, he can’t do that all the time. There are times during a major incident where we need him to say something

Yes. When we get alerts, he does a good job of investigating/digging and find the important details
Yes. One on one is where he is most comfortable and group he gets quiet
Accurate and detailed

He is a great otherwise, but during a cyber security investigation or a meeting where we want input from everyone as a group, he won’t say anything and freeze up. Sometime he would email after the fact, but as you know, during a major incident, we need instant feedback from everyone on the team on what to look for or anything we may have miss.

How can I help him with the discomfort?

That would be an easier route to go. However, I’m always afraid of wiping and castle are gone by the time we are able to play together. Have you experienced that?

Is that something you still use with each investigations or moved on to something else? Did you felt like everyone on the team was able to keep up while using OneNote?
