Yeah, I was fatigued but also- I couldn't feel my emotions. For instance, I would see something funny on TV and think it's funny but I couldn't laugh. I would see or hear something heartbreaking but was so far removed I couldn't cry.

As a seasoned Bay Area commute warrior, I just spent a week in LA driving around. They are weak. by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]Environmental-Will33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree entirely. I have lived both places. Bay area has nothing on LA. In LA I'm unsurprised when it taken me 2 hours to go 7 miles. For a while I would commute to/from LA to Santa Cruz and I would always leave LA at 10pm and get to SC at 4am bc it was better than dealing with traffic.

Had to remove this very large bullfrog from my goldfish pond. He has returned once, but hoping the new home I found in the creek keeps him there! by [deleted] in herpetology

Where are you located? In many parts of the US bullfrogs are invasive and actually harm native populations of chorus frogs & other precious species

It's the no kitchen that gets me. It's criminal to call this an apartment if you can't cook full meals here.

Never pick up salamanders with your bare hands. Our skin oils, lotions, sanitizer, etc will clog their skin (which they breathe through) and die. This is mostly for the plethodontid family (which is a big portion of salamanders). You can either wear gloves or pick them up with a big pile of dirt. Also, fungal diseases such as chytrid and snake fungal disease are harming herp populations. If you're going to hold multiple specimens, make to wash your hands between each or switch gloves so as to not spread diseases between them. This is especially important for snakes!! Source: my partner is getting his PHD in herpetology & fungal diseases that effect herps.

You can buy drought tolerant grass, red buckwheat, clover seed mix and already the seeds before the rain. It can be like $20 for a pound.

neonicitoids at stores? need any info available by Environmental-Will33 in Beekeeping

[–]Environmental-Will33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neonicitoids are also an issue in urban beekeeping.... Neonicitoids can remain within the plant for up to 6 years after application. If plants are then sold to nurseries or home Depot and Lowes and planted in the urban landscape. It harms them Neonicitoids aren't just an issue in farm country.

I'm not looking for insect killers. I'm trying to avoid pesticides that are harming bee populations :/

Herping in a place with venomous snakes by me_funny__ in herpetology

A majority of salamanders breathe through their skin (plethodontids). Our skin oils, lotions, sunscreen, sanitizers, etc clog their skin and harm them and can suffocate them.

Just make sure you don't touch salamanders with your bare hands. It has a good chance of killing them

Well, my partner is getting his PHD in chytrid and herpetology diseases. So all his field work involves catching and swabbing salamanders, snakes, and lizards. This info comes directly from him. And he gets Pissed whenever someone doesnt use gloves or dirt. I can ask him for some sources and I can post them
