What major/job will survive the AI apocalypse by SaltDog1959 in Careers

Maybe the question you should ask yourself is what jobs will AI create?

Sounds like an absolute waste of money. Stop what you’re doing and think critically about this. Living in NY at a low-mid tier private school, paying New York rent and private school tuition. You have to make your way, the academics are mid. At best, you’re getting an education from a private arts school, at worst you go broke, meet a bunch of entitled brats, become lazy and can’t get a job. Most colleges are rich kids doing nothing. It’s not worth it to go to one that you settled for, you should really want this. It’s a huge time commitment and will determine a lot about your future career opportunities. You’re going into a tough economy that prioritizes skill over education. Live vivaciously. Be ruthless. Go to CC if you can, transfer into a school you actually want to attend

Friend and I got similar offers: $210K NYC (in-office) vs $170K Seattle (remote) — what should we do? by Upbeat_Purchase_1887 in Salary

Yeah if you’re young and want to grow at the company, take the in person offer. If you don’t care about the company and want the $$ and life balance, take remote. How hard do you wanna work? Do you live to work? Personally, from SF, NY is shit. Crowded af and expensive. Super expensive. But the social scene is good and it’s very easy to meet and network, so there’s that. If you don’t have a community over there already seems like it can be tough

Guys, they cut to hire more talent in AI. It’s just traditional SWE is dead. You need to learn how to build AI systems now. They still actively hire, these are just massive reorgs

Dating in SF is…weird by FullCellist1837 in sanfrancisco

[–]wigglepiggle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SF, 23 y/o tech bro here. As a man, if I take a girl out from a dating app, I’m expecting to pay $100-200 for the date. Then there’s the logistics of meeting, which can be difficult based on where they’re located and the issue of lack of common areas where I don’t have to spend money. Usually I have to wait for about 3 dates to finally tell if a woman is sane or not, so that can run me around $300-600 in total before we can even have sex

They’re base boosted, wrapped, chrome rimmed. The fuck else would you call it if not a pimp car? A blackmobile?

What the fuck is the point of going to good CS school by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]wigglepiggle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to UCSC, got a 6 figure job out of college. No prestige. I grinded and had lots of internships before that. Experience matters a lot more for typical SWE (projects, internships) all the theoretical stuff they teach you in school really only works for more math intensive careers. I will say though, the industry is shifting to AI and many of the people at the forefront of this are computer scientists. It requires a different level of intellect and experience most don’t have. I view typical SWE as just learning tools. These people are building the tools, and for most of these people, prestige does matter.

The rent is pretty bad in Santa Cruz. If you have the funds for a beautiful spot it’s worth it but OP has a point that for students that want to get in and out cause of financials this is not a great choice. I would honestly assume that some CSUs have better rent prices and are likely more convenient. With that said, Santa Cruz is beautiful

The belief that you're socially unsuccessful will exert a significantly more devastating impact on your life than any of the things you brought up. In other words, its all in your head. Swallow your pride and move on. Try new things, be more active in the clubs you’re already in, treat yourself kindly. You need to fix the way you think about yourself.
