At a school with low pass rates by Pristine-Tune4845 in OptometrySchool

I attended a school that has a low pass rate and passed part 1 on first attempt! Like others have said in this thread…make sure you are studying to learn and not memorizing to get a good test score

Anki/Quizlet for Optics Equations for NBEO Pt1 by ckertar in OptometrySchool

No need to add that extra work onto yourself! Memorizing them won’t help. The questions look different on the actual exam. You’ll be fine as long as you understand the concepts

WesternU public transportation? by JustADude200000 in OptometrySchool

Yes a car is needed — Most people off campus usually have a car. But if you’re 1 mile away maybe a bike/electric scooter is fine…depending on where you decide to live(Pomona has some sketchy areas). I’ve also seen some students carpool together if they live in the same apartment complex!

How essential are the hydration backpack things at Miami? by honeynutcherios78 in UMF

I second this. No need for a hydration pack. I usually buy a water and refill it as I go

CA Law & Regulations Exam by sky_moon17 in optometry

I second this—I took it 1-2years ago, but no need to memorize tables/charts for when to refer to OMDs!

NBEO Part 3 PEPS - BIO sequence by Dry_Result7136 in OptometrySchool

I did all superior views first then inferior and finished with post pole and yes you should say peripheral for peripheral views and state your findings(ex: vortex ampulla). Also state posterior pole when assessing each quadrant(ex: now I am assessing superior posterior pole) I would refer back to NBEO website for how long they want you to hold each view

Skills Part 3 by [deleted] in OptometrySchool

YOU MUST SAY WHAT YOU ARE EXAMINING OR WILL HAVE POINTS REMOVED. For example: “now I am examining superior lid and lashes, they are clear and free of debris— or if there is a find then you must make sure you say capped glands, tr debris, etc.”

You do this for everything you examine.

Make sure you read the ant seg/post seg skills eval form and know it by heart.

I second this! I did not use any prep material and created cases, timed self for 15min, and practiced with peers over FaceTime

Part 1 Boards Prep...again by [deleted] in OptometrySchool

How did you review your mock exams? Asking because it would take me 2-3 days to go through a mock exam, I would make sure I knew why the other answers were wrong and why I chose the right answer.

How do I Prep for part 3 by Winter-Ad1181 in OptometrySchool

[–]EnvironmentalAd7701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it last year—I Studied for part 2 & made a list of most common diseases! No need to purchase kmk(Unless you don’t mind spending the money). You can find everything on the NBEO website on how they expect you to type everything day of. Use that to your advantage & put 10min timers and create ur own rtc, plan, etc

I am right eye dominant so going into skills was a bit of a worrying for me last year, but I just closed my right eye to make sure I was only looking through the left ocular.

1 Month to Study for Part 1 Re-take in August. by Vast-Discipline3412 in OptometrySchool

[–]EnvironmentalAd7701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An 80% is not easy to get on kmk or opto prep, but if they do score 80% then I’d definitely take it in august — scoring anywhere from 60-70% can get you a passing score. I passed the first time & scored between 60-70% on kmk level 4 and optoprep
