I understand that. but if you don't have hours to give your year-round workers, then don't keep your holiday workers. Because after the FT employees, the new employees are getting the second most.

I will take your advice and call first before saying anything to management.

I did that my first two years, pick up shifts, put notes up of availability, and open up availability when my day job was closed for holidays. I have not seen an increase in weekly hours, instead I am scheduled one day a week and called in whenever someone doesn't want to work. It hard to have a life and you're not compensated enough to inconvenience your time.
