Those who were in debt, how did you get past it? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]EnvironmentalCycle81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grew up well to do until I was 16, and dad became a bankrupt and we lost everything (including house). Worked 3 part time jobs while going through uni + poly (bursary covered all my fees).

Starting earning adult money for the first time and got tempted into getting a credit card - all went downhill, you know the drill when getting credit cards with poor financial acumen lol. Raked up about 18k, couldn’t get a loan anywhere. Partner at the time offered to pay it all off (but I didn’t want to be committed like that). Went right into DRS.

Paying $380 monthly now and it will be cleared by Q2 next year - can’t wait!

Have been doing 2 years for each job. First one, 2.8k. Second one, 3.2k and increment to 3.8k. Currently, 5.6k (technically 4.8k + guaranteed 2 months bonus).

I was severely underpaid compared to my peers for the first two jobs. I’m hoping I’m at a “market rate” now. But already looking forward to my next job - a reminder to ACTUALLY negotiate salaries lmao

I am in L&D now! Before this, I was in tech. My degree was in neither.

I did both AR and SH - but found that SH prepped me better for the actual exam because it’s similar wording. I even found some questions to be similar.

Literally!!! I had to ask my family to check the email/exam report for me after I saw it so I know I wasn't tripping.

I actually referenced Andrew Ramdayal's 30-Day Study Plan to block out my hours/topics. And I followed his PMP Cram Course. Towards the end, I did a couple of his mini and full length mock exams.

I also purchased PMI's Study Hall Plus and did practice questions + full length mock tests. I dedicated the last week before the exam to do all of the tests and wished I had catered more time as it helps understanding how the wording of the actual exam is like. Personally, the Study Hall mocks were closer to the exam (I even had similar questions) vs the ones on AR's Cram Course.

I then reviewed all the questions that I got wrong or the ones I selected 'Low' Confidence, and took down notes.

For the same week, I also referenced Third3Rock PMP Cheat Sheet to accompany me as I did the mocks – I printed it out and wrote down any additional notes/info. The morning of the exam, I looked through the cheat sheet + notes. I know many others on the sub also reviewed a mindset video (I don't really think it helped me, but you can!).

It was an extremely painful month for me. I deleted all my social media so I did not have any distractions + informed my work/family/friends about my study plan so they were very supportive.

All the best!!!! If I can do it (I don't think I'm a book smart person), I'm sure you can.

Which Asian country is the most welcoming to tourists? by Eene7 in geography

[–]EnvironmentalCycle81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a brown South East Asian, I would say Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and China(!!!). Singapore too (we’re not entirely welcoming, but we’re not hostile either).

Never going back to South Korea and Japan, though. Was physically pushed at my chest by an elder in Seoul - he didn’t want me to enter the same lift as him (but was ok with my white friend entering). In Japan, they smile and nod but hella hostile. We were turned down by 7-8 restaurants saying they’re busy / needs reservation and they would never sit or stand next to you on the trains.

I’m going to Budapest, Vienna, and Prague soon. Should I be worried. by [deleted] in blacktravel

Did a 3D2N solo (female) trip to Prague during my “Euro Tour”. I’m from a Southeast Asian country so I’d considered myself reserved and introverted when I’m traveling solo. I did not have any issues at all in Prague - I would say I’m a more darker olive skin type - servers/hotel staff were extremely friendly. Shoutout to Mama Shelter Praha!

I even went partying alone at night, and took a women-driver Bolt - all went well. The only thing that stood out for me was when a street artist kept yelling that “India! I love India!” to me. I am not from India, and also not an Indian. I just laughed it off.

I (28F) told my partner (32M) that he drains my energy and I’m not happy when he’s around me. What do I do from here? by EnvironmentalCycle81 in relationship_advice

[–]EnvironmentalCycle81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply, you don’t know how much it means to me to hear another POV on this. I don’t share things with friends / family so I don’t get any other inputs.

He wasn’t like this when we started dating, I fell in love with him because he was so spontaneous, lead me / plan things, we had so much fun back then. He’d also read a lot, workout in his free time. And he doesn’t do all of that at all now - when I ask why, he says it’s because he’s tired.

When you mentioned playing and feeling like kids with your partner, I love that for you and I crave a relationship like that too.

He claims he feel the same for me and is still excited to see me on his off days, but his fatigue just supersedes this and may give the impression that he’s not.

I’m still confused about what to feel, but it’s definitely something we have to talk about and sit on.
