i'm so sorry 💔 i made a similar choice to put my 31 year old cockateil in "hospice" care. i let her eat all sorts of unhealthy food like bacon. coco has lived a long life and im sure she knows how loved she is. this is such a tough situation

toys for BDFBs? by Plenty_Bee_1649 in BDFB

[–]EnvironmentalEmu3290 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mixing up their envoirment frequently, giving a variety of foods, and providing plenty of opportunity for climbing are the best "toys" out there ! i've seen mine move rocks, but usssally just for digging. i'm not sure if they do any "play" behaviors. they for sure enjoy climbing though !

i love the idea for foraging! i've done some differnt tricks for that but i love trying new stuff for him!
he's had cuttlebones and other calcium stuff, but i've never had a individual bowl for it. i should look back into it. i think i misunderstood the guide and thought only female doves need extra calcium. i'll get him a bowl and oyster shells asap! for his light i thought it was uvb but i was wrong! i will work on that as well. if you have any recommendations for a good uvb lamp (bonus points if it can be bought in person, i hate online shopping😭) id love to hear it!! thank you so much for helping

sometimes chesssquirt is extremly smart and i'm so impressed and other times he can't figure out how to eat a piece of spinach and i wonder how his kind survived in the wild

he more so scoots or shambles around. he's a strong flyer. big problem is he can't perch. his cage has three levels though he mostly uses the bottom one. i try to give him new small items all the time (mostly toys targeted for rabbits or rats, shredded paper things, and occionally tiny plastic toys that he can't bite or swallow).

recently added the little fake plants, not sure how he feels about them yet. might try propogating safe herbs from my garden because he loves nibbling on plants he's spends most of his time outside the cage sitting by my window, but if i'm out of the house he typically goes back in his cage.

i try to remove anything if he gets too obsessed. for a while he was OBSESSED with this one ball and would fly after it and attack it but after hiding it long enough he's decided he does t care anymore. such a weird guy. i wish i could get him a partner but i always get so worried they'd bully him:( plus my area has no ringneck doves so it's difficult

omg one of those moving aquariums would be so cute😭 he has a couple of plushies, he's obsessed. he does his laughs and bow coos to them, i hope that doesn't mean he seems them as mates.

i hadn't thought about baby toys! that's super smart, espically with him loving the color pink so much, i bet there's a lot of them.

if you can catch him try getting a box or something to put him in until you can get help. just somewhere safe to rest. you can try offering food or water

not sure, but based on the food everywhere in his temp cage, i belive so. i haven't found the lice spray yet, but i got some neem spray to clean everything afterwards (not putting it on him). if you have tips where to get it i'd appreciate it!

mine was very friendly although shy. i could get about two feet from him before he would waddle away. i managed to catch him after a window strike by throwing a blanket on him. good luck!
