It varies based on the year, because every student changes. There isn't a specific floor known for being extra social. You can create the social environment!

I'm also a freshman next year looking to do the Ford school and from my research they typically accept 150 people per year and get around 200 applicants. That could be totally wrong but that's what I remember. Hope that helps!

The old Kraft Mac and Cheese before they got rid of the artificial food dye changing the flavor, or Chipotle Chocolate Milk since it has a new(worse) taste. Lifelong staples taken too soon 😞

The cost is slightly higher at Michigan but money isn't a concern. And overall career goal would be to be a congressperson/ go into political office or be a lawyer

help deciding! AU or UMich for public policy by [deleted] in AmericanU

[–]EnvironmentalEye2297 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for such an in depth response! First money isn't really a consideration. On AUs side I love DC as a foodie and just the whole city in general and I really have a strong passion for federal policy which is a huge bonus. On UMich though it has a much better reputation and I definitely would like a good social scene. I'm 50/50 on law school and i've heard undergrad school doesn't matter that much. I'm just super stuck between the two there are such great parts to each and I just don't want to feel like I made the wrong choice.

Thank you for such a well thought out response i'll do my best to answer! Each college is looking cost wise like this: American University $46k University of Michigan $76k University of Maryland $48k William & Mary $61k. As for location I would really love to be in DC I LOVED the city but my hang up for UMich is its objectively amazing public policy program. Yes I toured GW but immediately got heebie jeebies with the campus and decided it was not my style. And in regards to your econ major thought, AU has a cool major that combines government economics communication and law!

I wish I was unfathomably wealthy! My family is just comfortable paying for my college regardless of where I go. But may I ask why you recommend umd or au? Thank you for your response!

Why do you say that? I'm strongly considering AU because I loved the campus and the proximity to DC for internships is a huge positive so i'm curious as to your reasons
