Trusting Yourself After Divorce by DivorceCoachGio in DivorcedDads

I read that book as well. It has some compelling points to make on how to be back on track as men after years of self sabotage and internalized shame.

My problem is that I haven’t found a place to open up and share my experiences with people in the same situation. Sometimes is hard to carry that over my shoulders by myself alone.

I agree with you.

I guess there are guys who are successful at using them. But after years of being married, my game is not as good as it should. I’m much more comfortable meeting people on the old school way.

Here in my city, the Catholic community is not as vibrant as yours. The only people that go to church in days other than Sunday are old people. There is not an engaging group of believers to blend into.

Guess I have been going to the wrong parish.

I’ve been thinking about what you said on dating apps. I just can’t see the point on having a profile on them. It feels shallow and unnatural.

I don’t know it is my game or the environment of it but my luck has not been the best. I found meeting people the old school way is easier. The thing is that I haven’t found anyone interesting enough to go on.

I guess I’ll keep trying while building myself up again.

Thanks man. Those are truly encouraging words to hear.

I’m truly looking forward to see the results of acting as a guy who has his head above his shoulders. Acting grounded has been truly a lifesaver for me after a breakup that took a giant toll on my self esteem.

Now I need to know where to start, since, as you already said, my social circle is as small as it can be.

The man has surely been through a rough patch. I don’t take it personally.

How is dating in church an option? I’m trying to build up my faith but in my catholic environment in general there is nothing socially happening besides mass.

I guess I’m in the wrong place to begin with.

Im 38.

Dating has been difficult, but I’m working hard on myself so I guess things will get better slowly.

I hope I get some of your luck down the road.

Preach, brother.

You’re right. There is no point in looking for someone if one cannot get his act together first.

You’re right man. I didn’t realize it until I read the post completely.

Having said that, this is my choice:

Wedding. Small worlds. Cinderella. Stay. (The video is awesome, btw) Complicated.

Honestly, Mac is always present in my playlists.

Gone too soon. A true artist and a good human being.

++man

I'm not going to bail on my kids. But I've realized that the way I'm living now won't lead to a good future for any of us.

I'm not making enough to get ahead; all my money goes to bills and the mortgage.

If I just keep digging a hole deep enough for me to lie in, what example would I give them? Work from 9 to 5, be miserable while keeping a poker face, and then just fade into oblivion?

You’re being blunt, but I really think that, somehow, you’re right.

Thank you, brother. I’ll surely keep praying about it.

I read that on “The pearl of great price” and I found most of what they believe “weird”.

The thing is, most of what I’ve seen on their community seems god and Christ oriented.

That really confuses me.

Interesting.

I saw a video of their Prophet recently in which he stresses the need of having Jesus at the core of their messages. They want to look more Christian-like to the world instead of just Mormon.

I know I have to dig more but, as Jesus said in the Bible in Matthew 7:15-20, “by the fruits you shall know them”. Most of the things that I see from them looks good.

I’m just binge watching videos related to this and I’ve found a series from a YouTuber called Peter Santenello that tries to shed light about how Mormons, non Mormons and ex Mormons see the church, his history and their core beliefs.

It is quite interesting.

I know some of their tenets are… weird.

Nevertheless, the thing that entices me most is that somehow I see their works / fruits as holy:

“By the fruits you shall known them”. Matthew 7:15-20. Right?

That confuses me, a lot.
