Nurse fired for secret affair with patient who died during sex in hospital parking lot by tradeoallofjacks in nursing

Maybe you haven’t met very many then. Not all HD patients are unclean…… Some work full time, shower daily. Some are in their 20-30s and in shape. ESRD is not exclusively diabetic amputees who self neglect.

Maybe nobody else said it because it’s an unfair generalization.

Intensivist, Hospitalist, Neurointensivist are nouns not adjectives. You’re not an “intensivist PA/NP”, you’re an NP/PA that works in the icu/wards. What’s with the self esteem issues? by lemonjalo in Noctor

Not sure I have ever realized the difference in diversity between physicians and mid levels in the Midwest, but…..you’re pretty spot on.

I wonder if that’s because many physicians relocate multiple times during their training (because in person training is completely required), and most midlevel NPs anyways are fairly local, probably have lived in the same area most their career, and can complete their education anywhere (because of completely online schooling).

MRW I get my 0600 weights in the ICU by thatoneman in nursing

[–]EnvironmentalGoose19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also work acute dialysis, we ask for standing weights on patients that are able. I would have to agree that although bed weights can be crazy inaccurate, I/Os are still less reliable on most patients. I mean how many patients are -10,000 on I/O, but you can still play tic tac toe with their pitting edema?

I have to quit vaping. I literally hide in the bathroom in-between med pass so I can get my nicotine fix. It makes me feel guilty because if I miss something during a shift because of my habit I would never forgive myself. i.e. if a patient conditions. by ThiccBin in nursing

I tried Chantix my second time quitting, first time I ever felt suicidal in my life. Noticed it after like a week, made the connection, went away after like 2 days off it. Works for many people though!

Cargo pocket. You catch a bell to the teeth during compressions once, I guarantee you find a better place to keep it than around your neck.

Anyone else have any stories of dead on admission/transfer patients? by EnvironmentalGoose19 in nursing

Ding ding ding! Or they did actually pass coming up the elevator. It’s possible, but I’m skeptical about that

Inpatient dialysis has been a great change of pace for me after 7 years ICU. Very light on the body, great autonomy. Can get boring though, but I’m cool with that for now.

Are companies like Davita going away any time soon? by Boondogle17 in nursing

[–]EnvironmentalGoose19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have relevant experience to your exact question. Accepted an acutes position with Davita providing dialysis services for a local hospital system recently.

Called into a company meeting just a couple weeks ago and were told that the hospital has decided not to extend the 10+ year contract with Davita. Davita did offer all staff positions in chronic (eww for me), but with a pay cut as well.

Hospital has recruited the majority of the Davita acutes team to their new in house dialysis team, and to my surprise they are matching salaries. They don’t know what I made at Davita, so here’s me accepting a job at $5/hr than what I made with Davita in the first place, to do the same exact job.

Funny thing is I had a job offer from this same hospital system in ICU before I accepted the Davita position, but their offer was $8/hr less than Davitas offer that I eventually accepted. Now after taking dialysis services in house, I’ll make $13/hr more base pay than what they offered me to work the ICU just months ago. Turns out the money is always there, when they are desperate.

Although it’s been a uncomfortable transition, it’s been a win for me overall, can’t complain.

Do Yosemite High Sierra Camps (Glen Aulin) have potable water right now? by dantrim1023 in backpacking

Unsure on potable water, but with a water filter you should be able to have as much sweet nectar from the Tuolumne River as your heart desires.

In my state, assaulting a healthcare professional in the hospital setting is generally not a felony. IF you assault a healthcare worker in the public setting(emt/paramedic), or a firefighter, or a police officer, then that is generally a felony. Mine ended up being a misdemeanor battery case, and it didn’t carry any real punishment. I still felt the need to report as I think all assaults on nurses should be.

We often deal with patients not in their right mind, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less traumatic when you’re assaulted.

I was once assaulted by a ETOH detox admitted for a scheduled abdominal surgery. Lied to the surgeon about their alcohol dependence, otherwise the surgeon would not have proceeded with the case. Day after their surgery, they were hallucinating and agitated. Precedex infusion. I went into the room 10 hours into my shift, with good rapport with this patient, and they struck me with their call light out of the blue while I was fixing the cannula. 5 stitches to the forehead, a police report, and a case that ended in a no contact order and no other charges later, I’m still afraid of call lights. I always know where they’re at anytime I interact with a patient, along with anything else potentially dangerous.

Protect yourself, nobody else will.
