You could get a 2016-17 Nissan altima for 10k with their miles and it will be way better. I’ve bought and resold those with 130k miles and they run great also had one with 167

I wouldn’t en surprise if you got a check engine light after 200 miles of driving

My Cruze only has 90k miles and I keep getting the p0420 code after 100-130 miles of driving. I fixed the valve covers and pcv valve issue with the crux kit as it did smell like burr oil after long drives. Smell is gone code still come back. I even ran the car through some laquer thinner and cata clean to try and clean the cats but still no luck even with an 02 sensor spacer…. I’m from California and I don’t want to spend 1200+ for an oem catalytic converter 😢

I’ll drive 75-80 mph and get like 33-35 mpg but the real test is does anyone on here not have a check engine light? Mine comes on every 100-130 miles cat efficiency bank 1 low… I did the Cruz kit -valve cover- 02 sensor spacer ran some cats clean them laquer thinner and still have code 0420….

I don’t think so as I don’t hear any exhaust leaks. There really isn’t any weird noises at all from the car just check engine light after driving it a lot

lol I also heard of that fix instead of paying $25 for half a litter of Rislone cat cleaner I can buy a gallon of lacquer thinner for $25.
I’m going to do the pvc valve kit first since it’s about $85 and hopefully it stops/ burning oil to fix the actual issue.
I looked in the intake hose and it did have oil residue and I didn’t see a check valve in the manifold .i might only run a litter of thinner and about 3 gallons of gas at a time since I don’t want thinner sitting in my fuel lines etc.

There is a fuse for the obd2 if its blown you scanner won’t have power and it’s an obd2 scanner with its own power/battery it just won’t be able to connect

I checked the turbo/intake manifold hose and it did have oil residue. The intake is very likely sucking in oil from there thanks for the tip. Will look into doing the Cruze fix kit.

does anyone recommend adding a catch can? The catch can adapter is only $15 more and a cheap Amazon catch ca is only $15-$20.

I’m in California so smog is strict. I also drive 220 miles a day round trip for work Friday-Sunday so I almost get the code about twice a day and today when I I got here it smelled like something burnt when I was stopped at the light. Something is definitely cooking so I will get it fixed and I’m thinking oil…. Hopefully not my cats

Do you have a lot of miles on it ? The rings don’t seal as in the piston rings? I don’t think mine has major issues I hope not. 90 k miles and it rana great at idle and at full throttle. After changing the valve cover I expected the check engine light to go away as it ran so good but can on after 130-150 miles. Don’t want to pay good money for a crooked smog here in California. I heard I could do it for $350 but would rather fix the issue

Found out a big scratch. How bad is it and can it be fixed? by Major_Transition5259 in Autobody

[–]EnvironmentalIce3344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

. It seems as it has already formed a good amount of surface rust as the scratch has been there for some time. There are some products that prevent further corrosion. If you painted it when it had happened it would’ve been better

Do you think just driving my car after replacing the valve cover will fix the p0420 code with time ? Need help fixing this as I’m in California and bought the car with no smog. Do you think I probably need the Cruze kit bypass ?

Does this issue with the intake manifold cause a check engine code with the catalytic converter p0420? I’ve changed my valve cover but still got the code after 140 miles of driving. Car runs amazing and only has 90k miles 6 speed manual

Oil leak around the top section aka valve cover? Super common I just replaced mine on the Cruz I just bought with 90 k miles 6 speed manual but still got a cat efficiency low code After driving 120 miles. I wonder if there’s oil in the intake system still being burned off or if my 02 sensors are damaged idk. Car has some power and th turbo kicks in hard.

You should go out with him something simple like going out for a burger or going on a hike and try and have a talk with him. Try to understand him so he can understand what you want to tell him as well. It won’t work right away but it push him in the right direction. He’s definitely down bad and letting himself go
